Re: What's Wrong With WA?
Life goes almost as normal in WA, wouldn't live anywhere else.
Second thoughts, spent about 6 weeks in Queensland back in the 70's while a new tug was being built for use at Koolan Island, during that time got to really enjoy the people and life.
If I was to live anywhere else in Australia it would definitely be Queensland.
Now if there is a place I would never live it would be NSW. Time spent in Sydney and surrounds I found the locals to be very arrogant, unfriendly and liked to put down anyone who didn't live there.
One incident is burned in my memory; A local took me on a walking tour of the Kings Cross locality. We walked through the "red light" district and was shocked at what I saw. Drunken/drug affected every where. The "girls" standing on the foot path waving keys, their eyes glazed over with drugs, many showing results of injections in their arms. The first thing that came to mind was, "Here are somebodies lovely daughters who have a very short future. Walked back to the motel that night feeling very down and sad seeing this spectacle.
We humans are the lower than animals, because they wouldn't treat their offspring like that. And the authorities turn their back on it. This was the 70's, don't want to think what it is like now.
Back to WA, apart from the super market shelves becoming almost empty, they are now again filling now the rail has opened.
Fortunately main everyday supplies of bread, milk, eggs etc are locally grown so no one is starving.
Some may have shitty bums because of the many that panicked.
Top priority for this government and the next is to upgrade the East/West road/rail line so the link is never broken again.
Australia united.

Flood waters washed out the road and rail line.

G’day Dave,
That would be great if we still had a “Commonwealth Government” We haven’t had a Commonwealth Government since 1973 when it became a “Corporate”. Have a look at what’s written on our bank notes ($ Bills) they have only got “AUSTRALIA” and no Commonwealth on them anymore.
Cheers.

exactly right Mike, and it been wrong ever since, and now this is why the states can do as they please and the commonwealth (pretend) government (scomo) just smirks and says it not upto us, they control the state borders, well then there are to many levels of pretend government and some need to go

Not propaganda Butch,
This was for real, you obviously didn't see the photos showing the damage.
The remnants of cyclone Bobby wiped out the road back in '95, you would thought lesson could have bèen learned. Bobbie cut off the Goldfields Hwy and Leonora and settlements to the North were stranded with Lake Raeside flooded. The government stepped in and did massive road works building a bridge to prevent it happening again.
Re: What's Wrong With WA?
I daresay the damage is being repaired as we speak NJ.
I have worked up and down the west coast from Telfer, Dampier, Broome and so on for 20 years so i know what a cyclone is. A cyclone will always cause damage regardless of what govt is in power.
There are photos of people in rowing boats in the library at Cue rowing up and down the main street. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
Main Roads repair roads 24x7 all year, they can't build massive bridges over every causeway. The country is too big.
I still say there's a lot of propaganda out there, we are in an election cycle.

Re: What's Wrong With WA?
Getting back to the original question. WA to me will always be the epitome of the wild west when it came to prospecting.
I absolutely adored my time prospecting that breathtaking country, where respect for this expansive and unforgiving terrain is imperative to survival.
Unfortunately I saw evidence total of irresponsibility at some places that were disgusting.
A small group (I hope) treat this unique and ancient piece of Australia like toilet. I know that if I was a local I would be appalled, and less likely to be welcoming of strangers.
PS every where I detected in WA was legal and with permission. (I didn't get anything worth bragging about)

Re: What's Wrong With WA?
With diesel heading to $2 a litre (2.40 at Nullarbor now) no need to worry about keeping the boarder closed as no-one can afford the fuel...well some anyway.
Butch the rail line was washed out, I think the rail is privatized now (now 100% sure however) and nothing political other than some WA poli saying it was the federal governments fault ??? beats me how so but i think the line has been repaired now, they did estimate 2 weeks and that was....what 4 weeks ago now ?. Their was a lot of truck transport to help with food/goods etc...with trucks queued and one catching fire at the Ecula crossing...probably full of toilet paper (NJ...WA is not so self depended these days, look at what a washed out rail link caused)
Seems like a lot of rain has been falling all over oz this year...good or bad...depends what your doing I guess.
Covid is the new flu time to cease with the covid catch phrase and start with "yerp bloody flu got me"....booster shots are now the new flu vaccines and like before it was optional but had no issue with getting the third (and last for me). So being triple shot here no worries about me jumping the fence to WA...but I have a feeling that like the first time Covid appeared the WA gov forced no internal travel...this may come into effect again and wonder how this would work especially with open boarders but yet restrictions on internal travel...time will tell.
BG1 yerp health care out of any large town is at a bare minimum....you can point fingers at politicians but in essence no one wants to work in the health system remotely for the same monies and lifestyle readily available in larger towns/cities...the remote is not everybody's lifestyle.
Wonder what happened to Bird flu..Swine flu ? will Covid (bat flu) become a thing of the past?
States under the constitution can close their board for bio hazard/animal disease control but it can be twisted to include human diseases as is the case. This power is so outdated now with air travel/high volume trade in goods/tourists that its pointless in this day and age...bio control into the country, however is a must.
Now's the time to put Covid behind pack the detector sell a part share in a kidney for fuel and take WA gold
Less typing more swinging....detecting that is

If the panic merchants didn't hit the aisles and begun hoarding WA could have got through this.
Hopefully WA will wake up and encourage and support local produce and overseas products be delivered here, not to Eastern ports then extra cost of transporting them across the paddock.
Bureaucracy!
When the main roads had assessed & reported the situation why did it take over 3 weeks for an alternative means of supply organised?
Woolworths no brainer of loading a container ship and sailing it around here is to be commended.
eg: Years ago I lived in Geraldton, then the tomato growing capital in WA. Can you believe the Tomato board shipped the tomatoes to Perth, processed them and then sent them back to the stores. **True story** The Potato Board did the same?
Locals in the know got their supplies from the roadside "honesty boxes" You dropped a few coins in the tin and got your weeks supplies.
I went to school with sons of the growers and I did enquire when visiting whether people are honest? The resounding reply was it was a great success, people were actually honest, a boost to the growers income selling to the public produce that the Boards would reject.
***Can you imagine roadside "Honesty Boxes" in todays world?"
We left the keys in our cars and our homes were never locked. Wish we could return to those days!
Re: What's Wrong With WA?
Yeah but it is not going to happen.
We were real Australians back then and patriotic but now the country is filling up with third world blow ins who know nothing but stealing and fighting for whatever they want.
We are now a different culture and it isn't pretty.
If you want to see who the real and honest Australians are/were, just go and have a look at the names on the Wall Of Remembrance in Canberra.
Oops sorry , drifted off track.

Re: What's Wrong With WA?
Adrian, snap out of the past & come back to the present, for the times have greatly changed. The last thing we need right now, is to incite division, through racial differences between people of different cultures, who live, work & reside in Australia as Australian citizens. How can any nation stand to gain, prosper & live in peace, when its people are divided?
Whether you, I or anyone else for that matter likes it or not, all people (regardless of their cultural background) that live, work & reside in Australia, as Australian citizens, have sworn to & have an obligation, to defend & protect Australian democracy & our Australian way of life. End of story.
Now back to the main topic please.

Re: What's Wrong With WA?
Hi NJ.
"overseas products be delivered here, not to Eastern ports then extra cost of transporting them across the paddock." NJ....Business runs on volume/turn over and easy of transport (closest port/point of sale), Eastern state's = combined 16+mil people...WA 2 mil (Perth and surrounds) so where's the money NJ, its in the Eastern state's.
"When the main roads had assessed & reported the situation why did it take over 3 weeks for an alternative means of supply organized" Ask your state government. I believe road trains were permitted ( thru SA) pretty well just after the wash out. as they are not normally permitted as the roads are not suitable.
What a mate suggested was with this covid BS that the Ecula crossing could be used as a drop off for trailers from Eastern state's and that WA trucks could have hitched up and delivered saving the quarantine issues...that's a no brainer. Woolies is a corporation not a humanity organization, it was a publicity stunt with profit....never assume a corporation has your best needs in their mind ....only your dollar.
People in this era have a different mindset....the good old days are gone. The attitude of making a quick buck or I'm alright Jack...not my problem are the norm, its pretty much every dog for themselves or immediate family.
Not going too change...never will.
So Lesson learned....have a rotating stock of goods in your house, not talking about cupboard full but enough to see you thru a few weeks or a month...dont leave buying something you use often (dry goods etc) to the last minute as the Quick Buck Bloke will buy everything then sell it to the I'm Right Jack then its your problem.
Fuel stagnating for the moment but when sanctions hit Russia and if they cant sell their oil on the market (Russia is a major supplier) then watch it skyrocket...too think only 12 months ago they were virtually giving crude away.
4 weeks till launch for me...car packed caravan almost done. I expect fuel to be around the $2 a litre mark on average. Looks like a whole kidney now

WA have 2423 new covid cases today, catching up with the rest of aussie now, may as well fling it wide open now to all as it will make no difference to have any kind of discrimination now.

Hey dave, if your were McG the WA premier, knowing the the WA hospital system is fragile, would you let the un vaxed in, knowing that if they caught covid, more than likely they would be hospitalised. ( Like Palmer on Qld or was that just a visit)

your kidding right, it was the 3x jabbed going into WA that have taken it there as it is, and the 3x jabbed are just as likely to need a hospital as anyone else.
I know at least 8 people that have had the virus now some jabbed some not and NONE that is NIL nada nada needed to go to hospital, the worst was they said like the flu or a bad cold and the young kids was not much more than a runny nose
So yes the WA might as well open up like the NT and QLD have done, for all and any, and now you tell me has it become worse there or not, No of course it hasn't, it is more to do with power trips by state premiers than it has to do with anything else.
I have no idea what your talking about Palmer on QLD, and or even Scomo reckoned he had tested positive the other day after he had been to QLD Brisbane looking at the flood stuff and would have to have been positive while there so go figure.
My Niece lives in QLD gold coast and reckons about 80% of the people she knows have had covid including her and he young son none died or went to hospital hmmmm

Re: What's Wrong With WA?
International Vaxed allowed into the country not non vaxed. Can you fly international being non-vaxed? not sure you can as yet. Discrimination ? don't see how.
I know your circumstances Dave as too not getting the jab and it is fair enough, but us who have had the jab because of the carrot offered...well we get rewarded others will have to wait another month or two...small sacrifice and its not discrimination it's life mate.
(PS: You need to revisit your number in regards to covid infections numbers in jabbed and un-jabbed ) Triple jabbed are as you said just as likely as un-jabbed to become infected, what Peter was saying the un-jabbed are more likely too be hospitalized as in % not if your jabbed or not. Transmission of the virus can be from anyone vaxed or not, the jab is too reduce the symptoms not eradicate the virus. This is what seems to be forgotten by some.
O btw McG will close the boarder again he has already stated if another variant appears...pretty sure there will always be variants, weird call I thought. Time for a constitution change or clarification which is more appropriate for modern times.
3 weeks till launch...fuel around 2.50+ along the Nullabor edging too 1.90-2.00 everywhere else and crude has spiked to new highs in the last 3 days...so up too 2.50 is on its way in a month or so in the suburbs...taking an extra jerry can for the Nullabour dash and skipping Norseman.

Unlike others no....I dont trust McG to keep the boarder open and like last year I arrived early March to Edjudina to 40C+ days ( Pilbara early May). I detect from 7.00am to 11am then stay in my unconditioned van in the scrub bloke. I dont mind the dry heat and not being a desperate hungry dog I dont expose myself to the heat of the day for a few grams, it will be there tomorrow.
As I said, McG has stated he will close the boarder again if things change or if the polling figure's are in his favor to do so. I'd rather be in the WA scrub in 40C than turning around at the Ecula crossing.
$2.60 Nullabour roadhouse $2.00 Norseman...might have to detect till 11.30 am now

Yep, Love WA and Tib to a lesser extent where you can camp on gold, get out in the early morning, have a detect and come back to the van for breakie with the love of your life. Drive out to explore/detect during the day, then back at the van, detect late afternoon to dusk then get back to the van and have a Beer then tea.

G’day Sparrowfart,
As it stands at the moment you need to be triple Vaxed and you need to have the G to G pass and have the Rap test done.
Here is the link to travel to WA rules.

Thanks ahead,
Sparrowfart.
Right now it seems that 3x jabbed and have all your paper work and a G2G pass as well and you will probable get in.
I think in a month or two it will be like QLD and NT and SA where they were very strict and then all of a sudden dropped everything and I reckon WA will be dropping everything as well as it makes no sense to keep up the mind games

You're dangling on a thin thread there Dave, thinking you will get in unvaccinated this season?
Fortunately the intensive care wards are empty and the 40yo covid patient who lost her life today had other underlying medical problems.
Another month or so all states will be lining up for the next variance of flu.

yeah whatever, it's not like WA is the only state in Aussie with gold and all the other states and territories except WA are free to enter right now and not as far to drive either
