Re: Heading To WA
Great photos there Mike. It may be a little cold now but I'd prefer that anyday over the 30+ degrees of summer. I remember sitting in my seat back at camp, not being able to get up as it was soooooo hot. For detecting, as cold as winter is, I'd take that anyday over the heat of summer. Good luck out there..........

Re: Heading To WA
G'day all.
Your welcome for the pics CostaDee, Gary and Johnny. The gold is thinning out a bit, but as you know there is a lot of ground out here. The boys are still learning the different ground types and having heaps of fun as well.
Thanks again for all your kind replies.
Cheers.

Re: Heading To WA
G'day All,
Just heading back to camp and currently sitting on top of a big hill where we have some service. Either side of this hill we have all found some gold. So I thought I would share the scene with you all sorry there is no pics of the gold as yet.
This shot is in front of the car.
This shot is behind the car and in the distance is a salt lake.
The ridge of the hill where the car is, is only about 2 car lengths wide and is a steep decline either side.
Cheers.

G'day All,
Thanks for the great replies the weather here lately has been very chilly during the night and early mornings. Beautiful Blue skies and into the mid to high teens during the days. The forecast for the next 3 days is going to be around 20'c. The gold in the current area has been mainly near the big hills and down towards the flats. We went out to one of the salt lakes for a day trip and to let the guys have their first try on the salt. The young bloke was the only one to find a small nugget.
Bill yes GH, GC and SA are still with us. All six of us are finding some Gold and having a great time.
Cheers.

G'day All,
Another little up date. We are all still doing ok and I have managed to take some pics of my gold so far from the new area we are currently working.
The biggest piece is my 20 Gramer I found Tuesday.
This pic is showing the nuggets on the scales showing the total weight.
This one the young bloke found it weighs 45 grams.
Cheers.

Re: Heading To WA
After following your trip account and great pics the CEO and I have finally arrived in WA. The fuel prices have gone up a little more but
you have a choice buy or dont travel. Will get into Kal tomorrow then head north a little to see if you have left any yellow. Not quite what I expected
this weather. A lot of the usernames seem to be from around my area. Will follow your account when there is service. Keep up the great work.

Listen Mike, I'm not sure if it's legal for anyone to have this much fun, and find gold, best you inquire into this.
Ps. I'm loving the whole adventure, good luck to you and your lot. Cheers Harry

Re: Heading To WA
G'day All,
Thanks for all your great replies and here is a little update. We are all going ok and still finding some gold. Today I finally found a little round Tektite and a tiny little nuggie. As we don't have much service back at camp we are parked on a big hill and just took a pic with the iPhone.
The weather here has been very pleasant in the mid 20'c. The sun has just gone down and temp is starting to drop a little. The nights have been pretty chilly around 5'c. Anyway here is the pic of today's finds.
The gold weighs .4grms and the Tektite weighs 4.6grms.
Cheers.

G'day Blisters, thanks for your reply and about Tektites. There are quite a few different types and not really sure how much they are worth. Here is a couple of links to check out Explains how they were formed, very interesting read.

G'day All,
Just letting you all know that we are still going ok. Have found quite a few Tektites and gold, but have been a bit slack in the photo department. Will get some pics and post them up soon. The net has been running really well tonight so I thought I would do this little post while it is still working. We are going to check some new areas tomorrow. Hope to catch up soon and post some pics.
Cheers.

Hi Mike and Jenny, looks like you all are still on to gold and having a great time. Thanks for the photo up dates. When are you guys planning to come back to Vic? Not much has happened over this way, I'm doing the usual thing going out detecting and finding bullets and working on the Laanecoorie Gold Bash.. Not heard of any big finds up to date but that do's not mean they are not happening.
Ok guys stay safe and I'll see you when you get back.

Re: Heading To WA
G'day Mullockgrubber and Bill, thanks for your comments. The new area we were looking for didn't pan out We will probably be heading back some time early October. I got a pic of my first nugget dig the other day this hole was over a foot deep, which has been about the average depth the gold has been in this area. We are still averaging a few bits every day. Today I found 5 bits for just under 3grams.
This is the pic of my first nugget I dug out on Wednesday. It was 2.2grams at 14" deep using my 5000 with the 14" round NF coil.
Cheers.

Re: Heading To WA
Hi there Mike, Looks like you & the crew are having a really good time & having some very nice finds. Well done. That old hut made of the tin cans is a bit different :shock:I am guessing that they were empty & full of dirt to stop them blowing away. Quite remarkable. It is amazing what you come across out there & where man has been & the extent he will go to when it comes to finding the precious metal & the objects he will utilize weather man made or natural that are the only things at his finger tips that he has to work with.
Thank you for taking the time & the effort in keeping us up to date with your wonderings & your rewards. Great pics.
Boy.....havnt we come a looooonnnnnggggg way since those first prospectors ventureed out in to the unknown to make their discoveries. Some never to return. Mind you ....there are still the odd one or two that even today dont return. But imagine what the old timers would have thought if they could come back today. & see just what we can do today compared to what they had to face. The luxury of travel, shelter we have out in the goldfields, the electronic detecting of gold etc & that I can sit back here in NZ & pretty much catch up with what you are up to, following in their old footsteps & still finding gold, almost in real time. It would blow them away.
Enjoy your days out there & the best of luck.
JW

Re: Heading To WA
G`day Mike & Jen ,
Thanks for the update and photos . Great dig Mike for that 2.2 grammer - gotta love those deep holes !!
Those photos of the ground certainly bring back good memories ...
How are the new " saddles " that you and Jen got shaping up ? Hearing that they are pretty comfy ...
Early October is probably a good time to come back to Vic as the weather down here is still all over the place .
Stay safe , good luck and the search continues .
ps: Say g`day to Mick for me - look forward to catching up when you guys have settled back home ... Best of luck Mike and the crew
Regards

Re: Heading To WA
Look at that red, red soil in the dig holes, makes me want to pack up and head over to W.A right now.
Like the story about the 2.2 gramer found at 14" down. The 5000 with the round coil is certainly doing a good job for sure, and no doubt all the practice helps.
Thanks again for the photos and update Mike.

Re: Heading To WA
G'day everyone
Just arrived home from W.A.
After Gullyhunter , Goldenchild, and The smilingassain, left the camp, it was a bit on the quiet side for us.
Had a really great time with you guys.
Just like to say thanks again to you three .
The campfire entertainment was outstanding, I want to take up the guitar now.. I think Jen is thinking about buying one.
We were still finding gold after you guys left, so we decided not to move camp. The gold was getting a bit thin though.
Then our young bloke Found another small patch of gold, that Kept us busy for a while.
Narrawa and rainbogold, came in for a visit.
Camp wasn't as boring once they arrived, gold was still a bit on the thin side, so we took them to the patch we had found,
We all still managed to pull some more gold from it..
Then Narrawa did some more research on google, said he likes the look of this certain ground, then he checked tengraph out, it was in pending ground..so we were off..
To Suss out this interesting looking ground.
Once we got to our destination, set up camp, and did all the things that needed doing.
My Young bloke, Narrawa, rainbogold, and I went walk about..
Rainbogold after coming back from a very long walk, started to find gold right at camp..
( Isn't that the way it works! )
Of course once we all knew the gold was at camp we all had a go around our vans.
Narrawa picked up a couple of beauty's! I will let him tell you what he had found..
I found a 5 grammer.. Very happy with that.
After a couple of days, Narrawa and our young bloke doing their long walk abouts everyday, always came back with a rattle in their bottles..
They knew there had to be a good patch or two about.
On about the third day
Our young bloke came into camp before midday, and opened his gold bottle up, tipped it into his hand, there was about 2 and half ounces of gold..
He said every time he had to dig a sound and put his detector down, the detector would go off, every sound was gold.. He had found a virgin patch!
He had a cuppa then went racing over to Narrawa's and Rainbogold's camp to show them, and he said " once you are all ready I will show you where it is" which he did.
Narrawa and rainbogold worked lower down, they found some nice bits.... Narrawa you lucky bugger!!!
That patch kept us going for a while, we all still went out patch hunting, but that patch kept calling us back and giving..
I would say it was easy a 12 ounce patch.. Maybe more, we didn't really do a tally up..
Narrawa you were spot on about it being gold bearing ground.
On our last day there rainbogold found a very nice piece..
So a big thumbs up to Narawa for finding the ground, and a big thumbs up to my son for sharing yet again another patch he had found.
Even though there is still gold here we had to call it quits for this season, the weather was hitting the high thirtys, one day it hit a record of 42.9 degrees, we all had the air cons running that day.. After a morning detect of course.
Narrawa and rainbogold called it quits as well, we all stayed at the Kambalda caravan park for two nights together, had a great feed at the Hub also..
Then we all traveled over the nullarbor together, but had to part at Peterborough S.A.
I would just like to say thanks to Owen and Annette for their great company and easy going nature they both have..
And for being very thoughtfull and sharing, it's a hard quality to find these days in people..
Also would like to thank Darren Kamp for giving us a few of his secret places earlier in the trip.. Thanks Darren.
Also like to say sorry for not being at the laaneceoorie bash again, all I can say in my defence is " I have the fever".
All up I found ( with a little help from Jen )
Just over ten ounces this trip.
I also ended up buying one of those pro swing 45 harness... Before I only wore a belt, with my pick hanging from it.
I found the harness very good, I could detect a lot longer and didn't end up with a sore hip or arm..
Sorry... I will post some pics as soon as I get settled from our long trip home.
Cheers.
