Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Am working on that same principle myself Nightjar, a glass of red wine every evening with my meal.
But now I am nicely past the eighty mark, and we all know that in these times a continuation of life could be tricky, I have an extra glass just in case I don't get to have one tomorrow.
And naturally with age, there has to be some deterioration of the short term memory banks so I have another just in case I have forgotten if I actually really had the first one.
So good on the 97 year old Grandmother, I have always firmly believed we are born with a set number of heartbeats so never wasted any by having the pump speed up through excessive exercise. (except the procreative type)

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
I wonder if Scomo is being influenced by the CCP in regards to people tracking with Phone apps.
The Chinese have no private freedom and this new app being introduced here is very much like what is being done in China. Watch out Australia the enemy is on your doorstep. AHHHH! HAAAA! HAAAAA! HAAAAAAAAAA! HAAA! HAAA etc etc etc

Red wine and Oldtimers
As an aside to the previous conversations about this.
Firstly, I don't drink so I don't know if that helps or hinders me.
SWMBO (my other half) kept telling me I had the onset of Oldtimers.
Having listened to this derogatory outburst for several years I said
"Do you know that our doctor told me I could have a brain scan to see if I do have it?"
No answer.
I had the scan and ... no, I don't have Alzheimers. I JUST WANT TO LET HER THINK I HAVE
SO I CAN GET AWAY WITH Shite!
Cheers

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Glad I do not have rellie or friend in an aged Care facility.
Saw an interview on TV with a Care Manager on TV a few nights ago and she was against Morrison's " Allow Visitors Policy" in that she did not have the workforce to monitor and screen visitors and some would state Health wise they are OK ( on a Stat Dec.) when in fact they have a cold or... In addition, her residents are entertained and happy and. and. ( But not all Organisations are like hers)
Another night a family wanted to visit a relative who had only 3 months to live and a number of family members wanted to visit. A potential for a Virus breakout.
Also in another instance a care worker was tested for the virus, told the company and was told to stay home without pay. Not an incentive for workers at the earliest sign of being unwell to have a test.
So many things that need to be reviewed/fixed eg infrastructure in the Care Facility say with more residents being able to see family on the other side of the glass window with communication facilities.
The other thing ( probably among many) that would annoy family members, is that when I visited my mother interstate in a care facility we would feed her, seeing how some older fems were fed that could not feed themselves was terrible. To me if a funnel was put in their mouth and the soup poured in, it would not be any slower than the way the soup was spooned in ( no time to swallow).
It no good getting old, getting old is for other people not me. ( I'd rather B detecting)
(unfortunately some guys my age are in Care)

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Re (now an APP that they reckon is so important that even people that are willing to try and use it can't)
Yes for android you must be running Marshmellow 6 or above, my phone from memory is running JellyBean 4.01.4
Mate is already Packed ready to go to Vic (with us) when the Borders open, he thinks we may only be able to get back into SA if we have the App ( me, I don't think so) but if it happens, either Grandkids will have a cast off phone for me, that will run the App or Office works have am Unlocked Smartphone for an Aldi Sim Card for $77.
But maybe it could be a good thing, re me not downloading the Covidsafe App, then will not need to have Bluetooth running all the time and then will not get the BlueBorne Virus:
https://www.armis.com/resources/iot-security-blog/blueborne-one-year-later/
( only joking)

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Pebbles, I think a number of members on this Forum would be like me, consider the Covid-19 Virus is serious for OZ, however we are retired, take precautions when shopping once a week ( she or me), telephone, don't visit friends, take precautions when filling up with Fuel( rarely), no unnecessary Travel and would load the App if it could be downloaded to out phones.
We in SA having no reported infections for the last 10 days and myself/wife are not going to work and being around people for a person to person transfer, however, I am still thinking about getting the App/phone but am perhaps questioning the benefit to us other than heading towards ScoMo's 40% takeup.

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Pebbles, just like bias, discrimination & prejudice exist in some, so will there always be/exist conspirators of conspiracy theory.
I for one refuse to believe that this COVID-19 virus which has now spread across the whole world, taking lives as it goes, whilst destroying entire country economies at the same time, were deliberately introduced or released on purpose by China. For what is the purpose of one nation crippling the entire worlds economies, the same economies that its own existence relies on?
Whether through a biological lab release, or through ones fish/meat processing markets, this virus were released by accident/negligence, for not one single country, gains anything here.
The finger of blame should stop being pointed at who/why & be redirected at how & by what means, we can minimise or stop things like this, from occurring again.
Solving major problems/solutions, come by way of people working together, not apart.
COVID-19 is real, is currently happening & it is claiming lives.
Cheers Kon.

Re: corona virus crisis and detecting
Peter: My post above came directly after yours, but was not intended as a comment on it. I apologise if I seem to have given offence.
Apart from living in WA, my situation is pretty well much the same as yourself, though I was able to download the CovidSafe app.
My reference above was intended to add a little balance to some of the comments in this thread that, quite frankly, I find to be a little bit wacko!

In the future [after this covid 19 outbreak] instead of spending billions and zillions of dollars on military arms spend it on research and development.
But then again most of our world leaders are megalomaniac who get their jollies of inflicting pain and suffering on their fellow human beings.

Yes moredeep, useless submarines.
The next round of global stoush won't be happening underwater or even on the water, it will come from space.
Seldom discussed, but Crop Circles are something of interest to me
Look at the sort of information Adrian keeps coming up with and posting, its not all for astronomical research.
