Carona virus panic
The mortality rate for CV is very low, and almost non existant in healthy people. The flu kills far more people. 260,000 people around the world last year. Why didn't we have all this rubbish then.
What gets up my nose are those people driving around in buses and cleaning out small town supermarkets to sell on the black market. Casterton has only one supermarket and they raided that. Even little Avoca got skun out. Naracoorte Foodland now demand ID and will only serve locals after having the same problem. I think this is the way all supermarkets will have to go.
But this morning my wife went and bought a loaf of bread (given up on toilet paper and tissues) and a tube of tooth past and a tooth brush. She was told she couldn't have both tooth past and brush which makes no sense as one is useless without the other. Anyway we weren't out of tooth past so she took the brush. Meanwhile I went to the loo but it was locked with a sign stating due to people thieving the toilet paper the loo was closed. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry.
he news is nothing but CV related news so I guess nothing of note happened around the world. At least we can laugh at it all and I love the on-line cartoons about it all.

Re: Carona virus panic
It is all doing my head in. People have gone stark raving mad.
Yesterday at Coles we had to show our IDs and pension card just to get in the shop and then when we looked for some vegies for dinner all we found was a pack of frozen pees and likewise beans.
Went to the check out and was told we could have one but not both. Well yah hoo we had some peas fer dinner with carrots and a couple of bangers.
This morning we went back to Aldi (A change is as good as a holiday) and arrived at the designated opening time of 7:30 am along with a crowd of other oldies who had dragged themselves out of bed with walkers and wheel chairs at around 6 am in order to arrive at the store in good time only to be told that the bloody shop wasn't opening till 9:30 am.
Then when we finally got in the shop there was bugger all there.
I wonder what Scomo had fer dinner.

Not Scott Morrisons fault and what he had for dinner doesn't matter. Do you think politicians were on wartime rationing?

Re: Carona virus panic
The PM is doing a good job during this crisis. You are correct and in the long run I don't give a stuff what he is having for dinner.
There are also a hell of a lot of so called Australians who are eating well during this curfuffle.....You know, the one's who have raided the shops and stock piled everything.

Then have a careful read of this https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-20/trump-coronavirus-transformation-is-a-warning-to-americans/12070178 and the linked report from an epidemic modelling group at the esteemed Imperial College London here https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/medicine/sph/ide/gida-fellowships/Imperial-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf and you may change your mind.

Re: Carona virus panic
Our PM is doing a good job or the best of what he can under the circumstances. You know, I don't recall needing or shopping for more than two of anything prior to this pandemic, so really there is no need for panic, for one can go back to the supermarket every consecutive day & restock some more food/hygiene necessities if need be. Besides, it were announced the other day that Australia has 3 times the food available, necessary to feed its population.
I cannot blame the people for panicking, for this is a most likely a once in a life time pandemic causing fear, hence the rush, but I do blame people for being so inconsiderate towards the elderly or much more vulnerable people within our society.
These are testing times indeed, where it is essential for each & everyone of us, do the right thing by one another as asked of us by our government & medical profession. It is not a time for division, but a time to lend a helping hand to those in need of it most.

Re: Carona virus panic
Yesterday Bondi Beach was packed to gunnels/ gunwales and the media are cracking up about it.
If the truth be known the beach and out in the sun and all that UV is going to kill any skin surface or airborne viruses. So probably better to be at the beach than walking around the supermarkets looking for efin dunny paper.
My daughter has had to cut her Fiji holiday short by one week and come home and will have to go into 14 days of isolation. Now she is panicking because she thinks she could be fined 30,000 dollars or jailed if she goes out to get some food for those 2 weeks. and her work has told her she cannot go to work for one month after she arrives back in Australia....without sick leave or pay. ....The bloody world has gone mad!!
I think that the media maniacs should be shut down for 6 months.
This morning on tv Possibly Sunrise or the today show (am uncertain) the hosts said after the break they will be showing an interview with a person who was diagnosed with the China virus after arriving back in Australia. They asked her what it was like. She said it was the worst flu like virus she has had and said that she felt sick a couple of days after getting off the plane. The media asked what were the symptoms like and she reckons that she did not have a cough, sore throat and felt a bit tired and after two days she was much better.
Sounds to me like she has never had the flu ever coz it does not clear up in a couple of days, more like 2 to 6 weeks after first spending at least a week bedridden in absolute misery.
I think they put her on the show because she said it was the worst flu like disease she has ever had and that would help their panic mongering.

Yesterday I went shopping in Lidl . My city is Lovech Bulgaria. For joy the crazy shopping is over. The store is full of goods, I didn't see an empty shelf. There are always 15 people inside, when one person goes out, then a new client can enter, there is a queue outside, people are 2 meters away. There were people with masks and there were people without masks.
So there is no need to panic.

Australian
Qoute:
Influenza Fast Facts
Influenza (commonly known as "the flu") is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that can be spread through coughing and sneezing.1
In Australia, influenza on average causes 3,500 deaths,4 about 18,000 hospitalisations and 300,000 GP consultations2 each year.
Influenza is caused by a virus and causes more severe illness than the common cold. It can cause serious and debilitating complications, including pneumonia, especially in people that are vulnerable such as the elderly and other in the "at risk" group.
People with a chronic disease have a 40 times increased risk of death from influenza.1
Annual vaccination is the single most effective measure to prevent influenza.
Only 42 per cent of the "at risk" group under 65 years of age are being vaccinated annually.3
Less than 50 per cent of healthcare workers, who are at a greater risk of contracting and spreading influenza, are being vaccinated against influenza annually.1
10 per cent of all workplace absenteeism associated with illness is due to influenza. Unquote.
I am not sure how that is comparing to the China virus but those figures are pretty nasty for the flu when you consider that a lot of people get the flu vax each year.
The media were panic mongering again this morning on tv stating dramatically that there is more than 1000 cases of corona in Australia while at the bottom of the screen in the news flash section it stated 780. Also why in the name of sanity do they have these morning programs where a host is sitting in a panel of no nothing I love the sound of my voice pseudo celebs and asking them to tell people what they should be doing during this crisis when these I love my voice turds are in no way qualified to give any advise at all on this virus

Re: Carona virus panic
Till date, 1072 people testing positive to the corona virus & counting. This new strain of virus is just as dangerous if not more so than influenza. The time to take COVID-19 more serious than what we have is now, for the number of infections will grow & so will the %percentage of death rate. Italy through lack of hospital beds/respiratory equipment, is already choosing who lives & who dies. We must not allow ourselves to get to such a state.
As for the journalism/news, it matters not who is put in place of presenting it, as long as we're informed of whats happening around us or we'd be yelling "why were we not told Herbert"?, do we look like mushrooms?
We can't have it both ways Adrian, for its best to be informed of whats happening around us & let each/everyone of us, decipher the good from the bad.
More strict laws have been put into place by our government, that need to be adhered to, as well as by major food outlets, in order to stop the cattle stampede, so things should be slowly returning to normal.
Do the right thing by one another & take care out there everyone.
Kon.

Oh well I feel like a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed on sh..t)
My wife panicked this morning when listening to the BS coming from those I love the sound of my voice morons who I might add contradict each other and try to out do each other all of the time. She went into the bedroom crying thinking that we are all going to die for f sake. Fair dinkum if I had a couple of nukes I would drop them on Prime and Win
I will be heading to the coast this coming week to do some detecting. There won't be anybody else there and so I will be in isolation and definitely more than 1.5 mtr from anybody else.....So there! Naaaa Naaaa Na Naa Naaaa.
If I get pulled over by the police for any reason I will not be winding the window down or getting out of the car coz for all I know they may be infected and not knowing it. While in the car I am in isolation.
My daughter arrives back from Fiji this arvo and has to go into isolation for 14 days. That's fine but what about the trip from the airport to home? Cannot isolate then and she will be on a train and then has to walk from the station to her unit. She will be amongst heaps of other people any of whom could be carrying this virus that as of now she does not have. .....LIke I said it is all a load of pointless bs. This virus death rate is not even close to matching the flu rates that nobody seems to give a suff about

The announcement just now by the PM is that all non essential travel within Australia, like holidays etc is not allowed I doubt that a detecting trip is going to qualify as essential travel.
We were getting ready to head to WA for the winter like we have been doing for the last ten years, well i think it might be wise to hang off for awhile and see where this is all going and after all not much use travelling if yo cant buy food supplies unless you can prove your a local and my guess is the same will be applied to fuel fairly soon to stop "travellers" if you cant buy fuel your not going to get very far.
Good luck to everyone out there and lets just hope like hell we all get to the other side of this.

Yet here we are all travelling backwards and forwards to the shops for food on a daily basis because we cannot buy enough food for a week at any one time.
Driving down the road to Batemans bay is no different.
Does anybody on the forum know anyone who has this virus. I don't, The neighbours don't, people I have spoken to at the shops don't, the staff at coffee club don't, The gym members we know, don't The shop I do watch repairing for do not know of anybody....So where the hell are all these dead and dying people?

Some almost up to date stats on corona in Australia.
https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert/coronavirus-covid-19-current-situation-and-case-numbers
So at the moment there is approx one chance in 18,660 of catching this virus. although that is not accurate because it depends a lot on where you are in the country and your age and your health.
Any hoo cares, Stuff it all, I'm all right Jack. My temp is still 36.6

What happens if a member of the police at a particular police station contracts this china virus? All the members of The entire police station has to go into 14 day isolation. and cannot go outside even for food....Yeah right! One rule for some another rule for others aye....Just like my daughter who has just arrived home tonight after a trip to Fiji. She has no food and cannot go outside to get any.....How stupid is that. If she gets home delivery how does she know that the delivery person has not left the virus on her food packages. The only friends she has who she can ask to help are people who were on the plane with her and they are also now in isolation. We have food supplies for her but now according new rules we can not travel out of State to give them to her.
The new rules that come into force tomorrow at mid day are going to cripple this country and ruin the lives of millions.... and these rules are stage one! How many stages are there?
These new rules allow cafes, fast food outlets and restaurants to serve take away food only, because they are not places of mass gatherings....Well they sure as hell will be now.
What exactly is it about this virus that makes it different to any other corona virus that our Governments are not telling us? Is it changing us/ Are we going to mutate into some other life form, Are we going to grow arms and legs sticking out of the heads of new born babies, Is it frying our brains? because as I see it all it is doing is giving us a bit of a temp, a cough and sore throat and like all other viruses and colds it is harming some of the elderly.
I think it is time for our Govs to come clean and tell us what is so bad about this virus that they are prepared to destroy the country economy.
