Thanks all for your great replies once again.

I went and bought the 18 inch nugget finder coil
Within the first day out with it...

BANG!!!!
It paid for itself.   Very Happy   Very happy with it.   V43

The two larger pieces are what I had found first day out with it..
Top left 8.8 grams top right 10.24 grams
Total weight is 26.4 grams all up in the pic.

Our W.A.trip for 2014. - Page 4 E985286b3cc77fa038ccda539f85c216_zps9b759e45

Now my young bloke had a go with my 18 inch nugget finder coil..
He had found enough gold with it to go and buy his own 18 inch nugget finder coil  T06

So my coil had paid for his as well.

 Smart bugger!!  V06

Cheers All.

Good going there Mike. Well done. Not sure if you have seen my recent post on members finds but I went back over old ground with the NF 17 x 11 & was blown away with the small gold it got from ground I have flogged with smaller coils & still pinged 42 bits for 13.65 grams. The smallest was .05 of a gram  Shocked . You got to love it when your first day out with a new coil & it pays for itself. Keep up the good work & keep raking that gold in. Hi to Jen.

Best of luck out there

Well a couple of days ago, the boys went for a walk about without their detectors, checking out the ground, when they spied these rocks.

It's amazing what they come across.. Shocked

Oh and it's a beautiful day, although the breeze can be a bit chilly  Rolling Eyes

Good to see you guys are doing well

Those rocks appear to be Hematite.
Hematite is an Iron and oxygen mineral, its magnetic and a good indicator of mineralization that could lead to gold if its followed.
One of my biggest patches came from following a hematite bearing fault......... multiple Kg from it.

Put a magnet on it, nope not magnetic..
Will go google now..
Nope doesn't look any thing like it..

Thought while we were in the area we might have a play of two up..

Hi jen
I just checked my memento bit of hematite from my patch and it is only very weakly attracted to a magnet.
So weakly attrackted that its hard to notice unless the magnet is very strong, I noticed the attraction with my 60kg pull force rare-earth magnet.
And it looks nearly exactly like yours.

Most of the photo's are of specimen quality hematite, but if you do an image search on google and scroll down you will see one that looks like yours.
Yours is degraded by weathering and oxidization like mine.

You sure have our attention now..
Love your rock  T08

There was a fair amount of this rock there.. They both came back with thier arms full of it.
The detector doesn't make a sound on them either..
There was old (costeine ) can't spell)digs, plus massive quartz outcrop running along the ridge of the big hill.. Which was above the black stone.

Thankyou very much Aurumpro, the boys are indeed going to have another look now..
It's on our to-do list to go back.
Well worth a better look..

Just go to the Costean and look at the rock type and faulting trend and follow it along its strike and detect any dips, gully's or creeks that cut the line of strike.
You'll definitely pick up doing this.

Wink  told ya. Razz

You have to take into consideration the weathering process that the specimen you are trying to ID has gone through when comparing it to pic's in a mineral book or the net.
As most will be pictures of the mineral in the highest grade that a collector would want to collect and display, and not what you'll commonly see in the field.

Get the whip out Jen and get the boys following that mineralization and follow my advice above and you'll do well.

And if ya get a rock like that that makes a noise it will probably 90%+ have gold in it !

You sure did.. Laughing

I know what you mean about the pictures on the net, or in any book are a much clearer and better..

We haven't even tried to clean these rocks, as there isn't any gold in them..
Can see the different colours in them.. They look like they have copper in them..

But you sure have the guys attention..
Plan to go back there, in due time.. Wink

 T01  for your help..

 T10  the whip... T05  oh that's a good one.. T05

Thanks Aurumpro,

I know how the old timers felt when they found fools gold.  Sad    Q07   When I found the first rock I could see that beautiful golden colour and I said to the young bloke we have struck it rich now.  Then he got out his 5000 and run it over a couple of the rocks.............. Silence zilch nada....... Bummer I thought.    V12

You have given us NEW hope now and we will be going back to that spot once we have checked out these other areas we are currently heading to.  So again a big THANKS Aurumpro.   Q39  cheers

Hi Jen & Mike, Man I wish I had that fire at my job site yesterday. On a new house build up on the roof doing rafters. We had -7  affraid  with a high of a supposed 3 but I doubt it reached that. There was a keen wind blowing that would have made that -7 more that that I am sure. Sun didnt get over the yard arm (mountain ridge) until 10am & even that made bugger all differencs. Beautiful stunning clear cloudless day though, but the cold is the price you pay here in winter on those clear days. HARD frosts.   Q12  Q12

Now....in your photo, apart from the fire I can see sticks, stones, & dirt. But I guess that isnt what you are teasing us with.  Rolling Eyes  There is a ball of something in the middle of the fire....could that be your burnt dinner. Ha ha    lol! ...Na... scratch ... got me stuffed.

Good luck out there

JW Smile

PS. Is one of those stones a gold NUGGET? Shocked
