Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi all
Isn't it amazing what one can see in a picture..
Yes there are always plenty of footprints, red dirt, sticks, rocks in a pic..
But sometimes while taking pictures, I see different things in them..
Hey Andrew!!!! No I didn't burn dinner!!!
Yeah I know I have to come home sooner or later, I think we will make it later. When the summer hits
So you can keep the cold weather..
Hey Frank! You GUESSED RIGHT
Sorry though Frank no prizes for getting it right.. hi Nola
Pistonbroke.. The way you added the smiley, me thinks maybe you did see it as well. But kept the guessing game going..??
JW.. Brrrr you sure have it cold over there.. I hate the cold!
I think the ball you see in the pic is just the fire wood... No I didn't burn dinner!
Davesgold, footprints don't count.. Sorry..
Nightjar, glad you are enjoying it..
Hope everyone is enjoying the thread as well
Anyone else have anything to add, please jump on board..
Love seeing others pictures and story's as well..
Nuggettseeker come on back over
We miss your company and cooking, and chatting around the campfire.
Nah we don't miss you for that!
You were great to be camped with..
Well we had determined1 (Bernie ) camp with us for a few days, no gold for any of us
Bernie has had to go back to town for now.. It was great to have camped out with you..
Hopefully we will catch up soon Bernie.. And get into doing some for some

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi Jen,
I loved every minute of it and hopefully we can catch up again soon.
We may not have found gold, but it was a golden adventure for me with some golden folk.
I certainly would not have attempted any of that on my own.
again to Mike, Mike and yourself for everything.

G'day All,
Well I finally broke my 2week drought with 9 littlies all are under 1/2 a gram each. We only spent 2.5 days at this spot, so I think there is still potential in this area. We needed to head back to town to top up supplies etc. As promised here is a pic of my littlies.

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi guys, Regarding those salt lakes........We dont have salt lakes as such here in NZ, although we do have areas of salt patches here & there in Central Otago. I have read many times in the past of gold being found in & around your WA salt lakes, & people towing BIG coils behind quad bikes etc...even though they obviously do dry up at times to allow access out on to them, I guess they can be a bit boggy even then. Are there people still going out on them finding gold or have they been done to death? I havnt seen or read anything about it for quite a while now. Has any body ever gone on to the lakes with a digger or bulldozer to do any deeper cuts, like is done else where. Or is it too boggy for that?
I know the salt has an effect on coils & that "special" salt coils were developed. How do the 5000's go with a mono coil in salt mode these days on the salt lakes or are DD's still the go? Cheers guys.....wish I was there....
Best of luck out there

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi JW..
All good questions.. Wish I had the answers..
I do know that swinging a 4500 or 5000 with a mono coil is very noisy..
Walk one way not to bad.. Walk a different direction, and you start to get a headache from the constant woo woo the machine makes.. Hard to hear the small bits of gold as well..
We do have the anti interference coils.. They work well but haven't had a lot of luck on the lakes..
Also have seen in one lake the wheel marks heading onto the lake and all we could see was a top of a car.. Every time we go past that lake we see less and less of it..
I don't think the lakes will ever be done to death.. Just all the easy gold is gone.. I guess..
Have you ever heard of "the lady of the lake".( Janet ) sadly she is no longer with us.. Would have been great to have meet her.. She loved the lakes..

Hey any one else know.. I need help!!!!! Helloooo... Please I am begging..

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi Jen, Thanks for your reply. Yes I had known of the 'Lady Of The Lake' & I was going to make mention of her in my previous post. I couldnt recall her name & I did know she had passed away. (another reason I didnt make mention of her) That was very sad indeed & I had looked on her site numerous times as I found it very interesting.
I have just got back in from a couple of hours detecting this afternoon on some old workings just down the road. My first detect in 20 days That has to be the longest 'break' since I have been down here in Central Otago. Not good enough......I know I managed two little bits. 1.3 & .56 grams. Ye ha. Still got on the NF 17 x 11 on the good old 4500. Bit of a bummer is I noticed a crack developing on the damn handle just above the two bolts that clamp it on to the shaft. I best deal to that before it snaps completely.
Cheers guys & good luck out there.

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hey Jen,
Janet was my next door neighbor and best friend here in Coolgardie, we had many trips away together to salt lakes and other areas,
she only used her GP3000 on salt lakes with a small dd coil, she would detect all night and every target she would just put a X over it and then come back next day in daylight and dig all the X marks the spot, salt lakes are so quiet at nighttime and especially beautiful on a full moon night, Janet only upgraded to a 4500 about 6 months before she passed away, unfortunately we only got to get out a few times with it she gave me her GPS and all maps before she passed, ill be doing a tribute to Janet trip in a few years and follow her gps trails over salt lakes and other areas she visited over the years she was out and about, im looking forward to that
cheers Kris

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi Gypsy,
It would be great to read a tribute to Janet (The Lady Of the Lakes).
I used to really look forward to her stories and escapades, It was her that that put the idea of trip down through Alice springs and the Great Central Road to Leonora as she did that trip up to Atherton N.Q on several occasions,
Janet even owned some land near the Crater out past Atherton.
Her written stories about both her and her sister around the salt lakes was riveting reading
Another good prospector and writer that has sadly left us

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi there Kris (Gypsy) That is very interesting about the salt lakes being a lot quieter at night time. I love detecting at night time myself across the ditch here in NZ as I find the detector (4500) runs so much smoother & quieter. I quess that is due to a lot less to no EMI, in the areas I detect anyway, but I wouldnt have thought there would be any EMI way out in the salt lakes. So more likely to be the lack of solar influence from the sun & possibly the ground being cooler as well & the cooler salt not being as reactive as in the heat of the day.
I didnt know Janet but had seen posts from her over the years on various forums & of course had visited her site numerous times. I was hugely saddened when I learned of her passing through one of the forums & she was obviously a very well liked & lovely person going by the many tributes & condolences put forward by many people. I am sure you have fond memories & of times spent away with her. Good luck out there chasing her GPS trail.
Jen.....Not meaning to hijack your thread....
Best of luck out there

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi everyone
Sorry for not answering.. Camped out in the back blocks a bit far for the net to always work..
Hi Gypsy,
That would be a great tribute to Janet when you get to follow in her footsteps..
Looking forward to hearing about it once you start on your journey..
Hi JW.. Go right ahead, that's what this forum is for
Now to tell you all what we have been up too.. Well a little
Some eye candy
We managed to get onto a little patch..
I stumbled upon this one, next to a salt bush. I had dug a little bit of dirt away, about 8 inches.. It was screaming, I couldn't pin point the target..
Called Mike on the two way, to please come and dig up what I thought most likely would have been an aluminum tag. He dug a bit more dirt out.. ( I almost had it out ) and out it was..
Oh we also found a few tiddlers..
Now to warm some of you up..
Some creepy crawlies that came out from the fire..
