Our W.A.trip for 2014.
G'day All,
Well we have been in W.A for just over a week now.
All settled in.... out in the bush
Had a fairly stress free trip across..
The only thing We found was that one of the caravan tyres needed to be replaced.. Which was done back at Peterborough S.A.
Fuel cost getting us to kalgoorlie total cost was $731.. Not counting the top up from home..(Maryborough, vic)
That was towing a full caravan..
We also didn't go much over 85 all the way.. Faster ya go.. The more the car likes to have a good guzzle!
The night sky in S.A on the way over
We spent one night camped on the Great Australian Bight..
What a view we had..
This is the view overlooking the edge.
Driving through kalgoorlie ...
The Salt lakes still have plenty of water in them.
Nothing beats a good campfire
A spot where we found some nice bits of gold..
Now for the gold..
We haven't found a lot yet.. But have had fun trying.
So far all up I have found just over 17grams and the biggest is the one in the pic which is is just over 7grams.

Thanks Mike & Jen for a great report and Photos. I got your PM. $731 to get over to Kal, is not too bad these days specially towing a van. How's young Mike going on the gold as I can remember last year he was kicking everyones ass with his total? Say "Hi" to everyone there for me please and tell them I wish them well on their gold finds.

Yeah Bill... if you don't have a heavy foot while towing, the fuel price wasn't too bad..
So I guess if you can allow at least $1000 each way, it should cover it.. That's from home to Kalgoorlie.
Young Mike isn't doing the best yet! But it's early days.. I am sure he will out do us soon enough
Will pass your message on to the others.

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Hi Jen, I don't know which way you are heading, but if you get over near Cue in WA and am using a GPS this is a tip. I lived in Cue from 1989 to 1999 and had some pretty good detecting luck. This is one of several little patches I stumbled onto in my 9 to 10 years in this great little town.
OK. 27◦27'50.97S 117◦50'47.07E
That is where I found a small patch maybe 50 metres X 100 Metres. Probably got 15 to 20 pieces around 1 to 6 grams.
I chained it out but my chain marks are well and truly gone now.
You drive from the old Day Dawn workings West to the first fence, turn right (North) and go till you come to the creek.
I plan to go back there as I only touched the place, and am sure there could be much more in the area.
If you get to Cue and give it a go, GOOD LUCK.
Also if you go out on the Big Bell road a Kilometer or so and turn right and go up and left past the old Race Course and go through the gate, you are in the Maffecan Paddock which is enormous, and produced an enormous amount of that Yella Stuff for detector operators.

Re: Our W.A.trip for 2014.
Thanks for the info..
Don't know where we are going to end up this year..
If we were to go up that way, we would first be checking it out on tengraph to make sure it isn't on someone's lease.
Thanks again though..

Yeh Jen back in those days we were like Footballers, could walk onto any oval and have a kick.Jen58 wrote:Thanks for the info..

Like surfers, could dive into any beach and have a surf.
Like Runners and Joggers could run down any road or street that we fancied.
Now all of a sudden people that like Metal Detecting are monsterous thieves, that Mining Lease owners and lazy Station Owners want to RIP OFF.
I Used to just drive out into the bush and have some fun, but no more.
