New Garrett PI out
Obviously based on the Recon model. Moderators I hope that it is alright to post these links to the Garrett site for those who might be interested. If not please delete the post.

Looks very interesting including a larger coil.

Re: New Garrett PI out
Thanks Dave.
Hmmm ? $2,995.00 USD = $3,261.04 AUD ! About the price of a Minelab 4000. Now the obvious question will be,
" Does it outperform a Minelab 4000 on gold in Australian soils?" (What do you reckon Bruce?) We will just have to wait and see.

No reason to delete.Interesting indeed. Both compact and versatile.Time will tell if its as good on our gold fields,as it is on/in salt water beaches and parks.
Cheers Dave, Kon.

Re: New Garrett PI out
Thanks Urbanfox. Looks different to a minelab. Nice and compact no cable from the coil. I wonder what it can do here. Be interesting. Anyone know if it discriminates with a mono coil?

Re: New Garrett PI out
Looking at it, a bloke could pull up, jump out, drag this thing out of the box, and be using it in a minute. It looks to fold up and telescope into just about nothing.Waveform wrote:Looks different to a minelab. Nice and compact no cable from the coil. I wonder what it can do here. Be interesting. Garrett are still pushing it as a multi-purpose machine, which I expect they need to do in the US as I understand there are 10 times the number of blokes in the states using detectors for other than gold than there are blokes solely looking for gold.
Whether it will be as good on gold as a GPX5000 remains to be seen, but I'd say there will be blokes who would prefer the versatility of this machine if they want to detect at the park or beach as well as look for a bit of gold from time to time.
My young bloke had a rifle magazine come apart recently in the scrub, and the internal spring sprung off into the distance... somewhere.... but even though it couldn't have been far away, we couldn't find it. Next trip, I have to throw a GPX into the vehicle and then put on all the gear just to hopefully spend no more than 10 minutes finding this spring in the paddock.... I just might buy one of these Garrett things yet :-)
The gun is an old Anschütz, and I thought we would never buy another magazine for it, however, we were able to. I would still like to find that spring.

Re: New Garrett PI out
The Yank forums are not saying much about this detector other than a few saying they are going to keep their AT PROs and AT Golds because the ATX is too pricey. So not causing a flap over there.
I have not even been able to find an ML PI Forum in the States. ......Mind you, I have not looked very hard.

Re: New Garrett PI out
The video shows it being used with a collapsed shaft.....something you cannot do with a Minelab. This should give us some idea of its sensitivity, or lack of.???
Still, it looks intriguing, and providing its not a re-cased Infinium, i might have a place for one myself.
Time will tell.

Re: New Garrett PI out
That looks the goods, love the design,no external motorcycle size batteries to carry etc.
Surely they learnt from the Infinium and this thing is on par at least.
Finally some comp for minelab jeez i hope so.
Is this why the next Minelab hasnt cometh? There been waiting to see what this Garretts like?

Re: New Garrett PI out
I think if they handle our mineralised soils !
And are as sensitive as they seem ,
I may need one of those pocket rockets under my seat !

Re: New Garrett PI out
Seems by a lot of the comments on the video that people their aren't to impressed. It cost more than mine labs offering and probably does the same or less than the ctx3030. I don't think being an all purpose machine that it could even approach the GPX5000. If it did it would cost more than the 5K.

Re: New Garrett PI out
Most of the commenters on that youtube vid seem to be coming from a coin/relic angle (complaints about having to dig everything due to it being a PI machine).
I like one of the comments:
I like one of the comments:
"There's no freakin way this PI machine is gonna sell! You'd go nuts in the real world detecting! I'm sure it would do good in the gold fields, where there's nothing out there but gold!!"

Ok. I've just got my email from Garrett & here are the prices.
ATX by itself - $3399
ATX Deep seeker package - $3999
We are now taking pre orders & they will be in store after mid next month.
Get in quick as there will no doubt be a limited supply.

Re: New Garrett PI out
would be good if Garrett Australia would give a couple of the new machines
to independent testers here. If they're as good as I hope, it will benefit their
sales greatly.
Maybe some 'forumers' could be testers....

Re: New Garrett PI out
Obviously this new Garrett is aimed at the CTX 'cause they named it the ATX. same coil range and kit package with same accessories as the CTX as well.
I saw someone online say that the ATX price was USD $2495 but it looks cheaply made.
will give Minelab a swift kick in the buttocks. bet you ML will drop the CTX price to about the same in a few weeks.

It's a powerful beast, it runs off 8 AA batteries. Should I sell the 4500? I am getting tired of digging those 2 foot holes.
