Or you could try:
3.1 x the weight in water, minus 1.9 x the weight in air:

This works sort of ok (rough enough) assuming that:

The specific gravity for gold is 19.3.
The specific gravity for quartz is 2.65.
The ratio between gold and quartz is 7.28 X.

If the speci sg is lower than 2.65 then results will be ball park only and where small speci are involved results will be rough as guts.

Which acid are you using?

Just the basic 32% hydrochloric acid, it's probably the only strength in town.
Appears to be doing the job.

Stay well clear of Hydrofluoric acid.
Is will readily dissolve qtz but it is a stealthy poison that can easily access your body before you even notice.

Surprisingly it didn't loose that much weight although it has a tiny amount of quartz and minerals still in it.
It turned out to be a nice specimen.

you would have needed to have a wt in water figure of 92.5g to calculate 7 and a bit grams of gold if the other weights were correct and the gold sg being 19.

I was very happy with overall outcome of the process given the sample size.
I'll need a more accurate set up in the future.

The year is starting to wind up and with that the temperature rises making the bush stroll a little unbearable
Three little bits from a speci today [top] and a tiny gold pellet. a few others from previous outings.

A slight reprieve today from the heat, a wet drizzly day made these 2 specie's extra nice.
Not much in them but the little Sadie coil sniffed them out nicely

Ah ok just a baby, I would’ve offered $$ if it was multi gram.
Cannot make out the decimal on your scales so had to ask.

I've managed to get out between the storms the rain and the heat but alas the gold is hiding.
I managed to spot this good looking quartz crystal cluster near some mullock heaps. I hate to think how many amazing quartz crystals were crushed looking for gold
