the 2023/2024 bushfire season for vic and nsw

hi,

anyone know what we are expecting this summer as we exit winter and into spring and summer time.

methinks we are entering some drier times ahead.

i feel as i was up in dunolly a few weeks ago things are starting to dry out a tad.

plus alot of growth around the places.

does anyone know the situation.

i feel we may be in for a long hot and dry summer and things are starting to warm up here in melbourne too.

more concerns over bushfires and as we know they can be destructive and be horrible.

and if theres been any mitagation like back buring done as this its the time to do before its too late.

time to clear out any growth and time to prepare.

but does anyone know what we are in for this 2023/2024 period.

Hi Tim, yep it's going to be a dry one but we've all been through it before.
One just needs to be prepared and remain calm.
Have a plan ready and if you're in the bush have a couple of exit strategies on hand.

Looking like a warm spell for these next few weeks in Vic.

Would not surprise me that the very first fires start up.

I bet no back burns done as its been to wet.

Dicey time for the CFA and alike coming up.

If my back yard in Canberra is any indication, the bush here is still well watered.
During the Canberra Fires our back yard was literally a dust bowl covered in Bimdies and ants with no grass at all.
This year so far the yard is very bright green covered in grass and bazillions of birds.Very few ants this year.
We have not watered our lawns since before the fires.
Whatever that means is anybodies guess.

With the amount of rain we've had here in Vic over the last few years, I've never seen the goldfields (not to mention Victorian forests in general) teaming with young scrub/plant life & with each passing sunny day plants/scrub/grass sprouting upwards like there's no tomorrow.
If weather forecasters are right in their predictions of a probable El-Niño event taking place here in Australia & or all across the pacific ocean (as has been the case in Europe), It will be a dangerously high fire season this coming summer for sure.

Adrian, don't let the few sightings of ants out there fool you. They've been laying dormant underground avoiding the cold spells, but as soon as the weather or should I say steady warmer sunny days set in & just like the few mosquitoes we are seeing now, will soon be in abundance flying/ crawling about, with every other creepy crawling critter this summer round.

Yes the ants are staying underground at the moment but those that have been showing signs of activation are all very small. Maybe they did not get much tucker stocked away for the cold season here and so are not growing in order to preserve what food they have got.
My pergola is 17 mtr x 5 mtr and I reckon that there is one gigantic nest under the paver's. I reckon we would be in trouble if they all decided to come out in one go.

checked the week after next week in vic and they think there will be 3 days over 30 degs and one of thems a total fire ban for all of vic.

me thinks we are entrering into some bad weather in terms of fires.

alot of those windy days ahead in the mid 20s.

it does not have to all that hot to start fires.

all that it needs to have a bad one is wind and dry fuel

be on full alert from here on in

From reports up in the triangle further north you go the drier it gets.

I think anything north they say of beaufort is dry.

Maryborough and surrounds is now tinder dry.

The usaual grass fires now.

Theres one going at tarnigulla today as an emergency warning another one out near Avoca as well but thats a watch and act.

Quite a few more just around Bendigo as well and in the far west of the state.

Be safe out there.

It does not have to be temp hot to start one either.

Wind and fuel alls that needed.

Plan for it now.

Its only November still yet to hit January yet.

As for wet weather nothing on the forcaste for at least 2 weeks for northern vic. Melbourne say friday only a couple of mms.

its a jungle out there from reports

any updates on the ground conditons up in the golden triangle currently as in terms of growth and is it green or is it dry this kind of thing more like around dunolly and surrounds
