If I have to go to a bigger coil on the 6000 i prefer to go to the 5000 with a 12Evo or 14Elite.It will be interesting when the NF xceed 16x10" is released to see how it performs.
These days I think using any of these machines you would not be disadvantaged its more about where and how you look. The total return over time is about the same. However the 6000 will return nearly every day to keep the spirits up.The only detector i no longer use is the SDC.

So on average; at what depth do you find most of the sub gram to approx 1g nuggs?

You say that you are not using the SDC but is it capable of detecting the bits you found with the 6000?

Adrian there are way too many variables to give you any accurate information on this. The main reason for not using the SDC anymore is it simply wasn't practical for open ground searching both ergonomically and with the 8" coil. The improvements on depth with the 6000 are particularly noticeable as the gold gets smaller. The 11" mono combined with the newer technology gives better depth on all size gold as opposed to the 8"SDC and will get missed smaller gold as well. You can rework old SDC patches with great results.

A nice catch up with Axtyr and Wayne today in good old flogged Tarnagulla today.
The little sadie coil was running nice and smooth and was getting targets a good depth.off & running 2023 - Page 2 Signal11
This piece of junk above was at a good depth for the sadie,a nice broad signal which was unmistakeable.
Then in a slightly trashy area  I got a nice target that got me into some nice pipe clay at about 6 inches deep
off & running 2023 - Page 2 Signal12
Believe it or not a nice 60 gram slug popped up cheers
We'd been to this spot on numerous occasion, Wayne pinged a nice 3 gram nugg too.

It wasn't deep and it screamed like rubbish with the 15" evo.

Nice going moredeep, well done. cheers  Looks like the better days are settling in, so getting some detecting time in before temperatures start scorching the earth, or next deluge of some kind or another takes place, might be a wise move. Shocked Laughing

It was a choice yesterday to park my backside on the couch for 3 hours and watch the grand final with my Collingwood loving wife or go for a detect.
I decided to watch the first 5 min and then go bush. I pinged 3 prickly little nugs for 0.95 gm and made it home in time for the last 10 min.
A good day all up. cheers Q11

A few more prickly little bits for a total of 1.6 gms, found below some reef workings.
The larger 1.2 gm piece was found with the little Sadie coil, it fitted nicely between 2 saplings and up popped a nice signal cheers

The speci's are getting bigger cheers I got a nice murmur and got it at about 10 inches deep, only a pin head of visible gold.
The pin pointer reacted very well indicating a good amount of gold in it.
All up about 6 gms with a lot of fine flour gold remaining in the surrounding quartz.

There's been some challenging weather in the last couple of days, hot and blustery with a high pollen count also  Twisted Evil
Fortunately the speci's keep popping up which makes it a little more bearable
These two are from the same area as the previous couple.
The pin pointer reacts well to the larger one in a few places so hopefully a few grams in it. I'll give it a roast with the oxy tomorrow and crack it open   Very Happy

The last large one appeared to be in virgin ground, when I was digging it I hit a large quartz protrusion which jarred my hand affraid
Lying away from it was this speci, I got no  further signal from the protrusion Mad Laughing Laughing
I did a basic SG test which roughly estimated 28 gms of gold [ I doubt it, though it does have a bit of weight to it  Question  ]

dry weight 147.5 gms
submerged weight 56.6 gms

Hmmmm The speci sg calculates out at 1.622 so not a lot of gold in there if your weights are correct.
The usual formulas for gold in qtz calcs use 2.65 as the sg for quartz but you speci looks like it has a lot of stuff other than qtz in it. The sg of 1.62 seems to be a tad low. maybe check the weights again.
Make sure that the speci does not touch any of the water container.
