If I have to go to a bigger coil on the 6000 i prefer to go to the 5000 with a 12Evo or 14Elite.It will be interesting when the NF xceed 16x10" is released to see how it performs.
These days I think using any of these machines you would not be disadvantaged its more about where and how you look. The total return over time is about the same. However the 6000 will return nearly every day to keep the spirits up.The only detector i no longer use is the SDC.
So on average; at what depth do you find most of the sub gram to approx 1g nuggs?
You say that you are not using the SDC but is it capable of detecting the bits you found with the 6000?

Re: off & running 2023
The little sadie coil was running nice and smooth and was getting targets a good depth.
This piece of junk above was at a good depth for the sadie,a nice broad signal which was unmistakeable.
Then in a slightly trashy area I got a nice target that got me into some nice pipe clay at about 6 inches deep
Believe it or not a nice 60 gram slug popped up
We'd been to this spot on numerous occasion, Wayne pinged a nice 3 gram nugg too.

Re: off & running 2023
It wasn't deep and it screamed like rubbish with the 15" evo.
I nearly walked away but knowing what the last screamer produced I erred on the side of caution

Re: off & running 2023
It was a choice yesterday to park my backside on the couch for 3 hours and watch the grand final with my Collingwood loving wife or go for a detect.
I decided to watch the first 5 min and then go bush. I pinged 3 prickly little nugs for 0.95 gm and made it home in time for the last 10 min.
A good day all up.

Re: off & running 2023
Fortunately the speci's keep popping up which makes it a little more bearable
These two are from the same area as the previous couple.
The pin pointer reacts well to the larger one in a few places so hopefully a few grams in it. I'll give it a roast with the oxy tomorrow and crack it open

Re: off & running 2023
Lying away from it was this speci, I got no further signal from the protrusion
I did a basic SG test which roughly estimated 28 gms of gold [ I doubt it, though it does have a bit of weight to it ]
dry weight 147.5 gms
submerged weight 56.6 gms

Re: off & running 2023
The usual formulas for gold in qtz calcs use 2.65 as the sg for quartz but you speci looks like it has a lot of stuff other than qtz in it. The sg of 1.62 seems to be a tad low. maybe check the weights again.
Make sure that the speci does not touch any of the water container.

Re: off & running 2023
Close Adrian but no cigar but I'll cut you some slack, i'm guessing my technique was a little dodgy
Thanks kon, it's been a bit of fun snagging these speci's, one can go a long time without getting one then whammo .
I've got this speci soaking in acid so we'll see what the final weight is
