beach detecting

Three great days in melbourne weather cant wait to hit the beaches.

HI BBB.i,ve been doing the adelaide beaches since i got my BH discovery 3300@ 2months. i get a bit here and there but slim pickings really.it does,nt like moist ,wet sand sadly. need a surf or similar model i guess.
anyone know if it is possible to better tune this model ? with ground balance tuned,it still falses everywhere in these conditions. well, good hunting eh.

Sorry gold slugger I don't know much about your detector all am using is a bounty hunter 505 and do really well, but don't go near water it goes crazy.

Post a pic of your finds for the 3 days badboybilly, I am going down to hit the beach tomorrow, Will post a pic of my country town slim pickings.
I note your using Bounty Hunters, I use a Minelab Sovereign GT, Can go on dry & wet sand with equally good results, Can even go into the water with no problem, Just dont drop it !

nice profile there BBB.thanx for the replies all how do you run,set the 505 BBB.? i,ve got auto-supposedly,and manual ground balance,sensitivity adjustment and notch/ descrim. control.i only run in all metal and ground balance tuned.was gonna go for the 505-pioneer?.guess it,s it,s all in the wrist eh. cheers but.

This mornings beach finds, 2 hrs, 18 coins, 1 sinker, 1 ring. Tried the other end of the beach where i dont normally go as there is so much junk targets, All todays coins along with a 1c piece, Ring appears to be costume jewellry. Am looking forward to your pic BBB.

BBB, How did you go !, I have been back to the front beach & got more coins, lead & copper, My noteable find was a 1954 Florin that cleaned up real good. My friend just came back from the Hawaiian Islands and said she saw people detecting the beaches every day while they were there. Now that's a location i would love to detect.

Went this morning for an hour or so, 16 coins ( all todays spendables ) came to $8.35 and a sinker to boot. Anyone else having any beach finds ?

Hi ASHLEY, I went down a local beach this morning for an hour and got 10 coins for $11.40 . I got about 50 bottle tops and a bling type earing . Had a great time , 6am to 7am, not too many people .

More detecting, More coins ( Todays mostly ) and a bling bangle is about my lot for the last 2 early morning detects.
Anyone else doing the beaches over, Badboybilly & Charliec any good finds of late ? Going to hit the water with the Excalibur over the next few weeks so it will be interesting to see whats out there.

Hi ash100456 went sunday morning got about $46.00 ln coins and a men"s silver ring, will go away with my family wed to safety beach for a week,ill let you know my finds.

Ash100456 i forgot to tell you 2 weeks ago a friend of mine rang me because his wife lost her wedding ring and band at phillip island,she was in shock so i went there, it took me 1.25 min to get there and 5 min to find them the price on the ring $14.000.00, she was over the moon,they gave me a $500.00 cash reward and 3 kilos of king george whitting how good is that.

Yep ! Great disease. Keep doing the beaches the way you are going and you will make enough money to purchase the golding machine. I live 1500 klms from my favorite golding spots & 600klms away from city beaches so i just have to make do with my meagre pickings !
Always room for more gold prospectors, You have the golden triangle just up the road from you & the forum boys have been finding some good gold of late !

Apologies to both of you for coming in over your posts.
i joined the forum in November & have read many posts on many subjects .
Im yet to buy a detector , but like yourselves , the goldfields are not regularly a detecting option
due to distances between fields - Beaches & coins provide a great option to detect & begin the hobby
i was interested what machines are your preferred beach and or coin detector or a good
detector to start out with ..?

G'day ANT1967, Your not invading, That's what forums are for, I use a Minelab Sovereign GT on the beach in the dry sand & right down to the waters edge, Can go in the water with the coil but you daren't drop your detector in the drink as it would go kaput. I find it a brilliant machine for beaches & relic hunting, You can get them new for around $1200 or on ebay for around $800. Also have a Minelab X-Terra 705 for my wife, ( She & i have barely used it to date, I always take my truty old GT ) very light compared to my GT and they are new for around $1,100, some minelab dealers have them on special at the moment for under $1000 with the golding coil included, plenty on Ebay as they are very popular with those wanting to get into detecting. Badboybilly uses another detector but i cant remember which one, He will probably answer you when next on. Hope this helps.

Hi ant1967 and welcom to the forum,like ash said we are here to help as much as we can,I use a bounty 505 pioner whitch I got sent from kellyco america for about $300.00 I find it very easy to start with,soon I'll be getting a mine lab for the winter days when the beaches are empty. My GT & X-Terra 705 are supposed to be able to find gold but i have never seriously tried, When i did try with a small nuggett on the ground as a test i got such a small signal i couldn't tell if it was enough of a response amongst the normal noise to pull me up & dig. We use the mighty GPX4500 for golding and havent looked back. Can only suggest get a well known brand coin/relic detector to start you off on the beaches & when confidence & the bug has really bitten it easier to justify a serious golding machine. Most detectorists on here have more than one detector, Different horses for different courses as the saying goes.
