different coil settings

Hi,i have just purchased a gpx4500 and it came with a 11" double d coil and until i can afford to get a mono coil i will have to use the double d.I have been reading info from members on different settings for the 4500 but just about all are for using a mono coil,will settings for mono coils suit the double d as well?
I live in clermont and the ground here is fairly quiet can someone suggest a setting i can use,because i am on a huge learning curve here fellas and any help i can get would be much appreciated.

G'day Briggo, Factory presets are not far off the mark for a DD coil. I found my first gold and my largest piece so far with the 11"DD in factory presets or not far from it.

About the only adjustments that you will probably have to make is the fine tuning of the stabiliser and the gain, try and set the gain as high as you can before the threshold becomes noisy.

Sharp timing is a good timing to use if you don't want to use normal timings.
You can also select M on the front panel of the coil/Rx, this will make your DD work as a mono, psuedo mono it is called and only the left hand side of the coil will be active, it will give you a better response than a DD but not as good as a mono coil.

Thanks for the quick reply goldstalker,to change the the fine tuning of the stabiliser and gain as well as use the factory presets i turn the detector on change the presettings for stabiliser and gain then turn off and restart the detector and the presets will show up with the changes made??
I am not sure of this but it is what i think i do according to the manual.

Briggo, If you turn your detector on in facotry presets, you are ready to go.
Any changes you make from there on will be able to be used straight away (don't forget to ground balance)
When you turn your detector off the adjustments you have made will be saved, so the next time you turn your detector on the settings will be as they were when you turned it off.
To not save your adjustments you can just unplug the power lead, or if things get to messy you can restore the factory presets by holding down the on off switch for about 5 seconds.

It might be a good idea to get hold of a copy of Jonathon Porters instructional DVD 'The Seta Project' which covers the GPX4500
