Who uses a GPX 4800
G'day, I was just curious with everyone running around now with the 5000 and many posting of thier experiences with the 5000, is there anyone out there that uses this forum running the new 4800 and can you give us some insight to how you find the detector and your experiences with it??
It would be interesting to read about some of the relic hunters using the 48 and the ability it has over previous machines.
Cheers

Re: Who uses a GPX 4800
i have a question too.... people keep saying you wouldnt buy a 4800 cos you couldnt use it in our mineralised soils, yet they are sold here in australia and the write ups say nothing about 'not' using one here. So my question is... why would ML make/sell a detector in australia that you couldnt use here?
Or is it people just comparing it to a 5000 because the 5000 has more timings?
Someone please help me understand
Cheers

hi howard
it is my understanding that the only thing about the 4800 that won't realy suit MOST of our conditions is the relic mode (ground balance off)
the rest of the detector will work in aus just fine.
cheers

Re: Who uses a GPX 4800
Well the 5000 has the same coin/relic mode so it not really that. I think you will find that it has less features than the 4500 has, so that could be why its not as popular here

Yes fencejumper, I reckon that they will work here in Aus, just like all the other ML's have, I just reckon that they have taken out some of the good features that the 4500 and the 4000 had going for them, things like "sens smooth" for instance and "boost" in the audio, also "specific ground balance" is a gone, and response "normal inverted" no longer exists, which was handy for using a DD coil in cancel mode if you wanted the signal to remain hi/low on small targets.
They should have left it with the same as the 4500 had at least and added the coin/relic mode and just called it a 4500v2
cheers dave
