Jellyfish and signals

Since when do jellyfish start giving a sharp signal.This has got me scratching my head I'm digging up jellyfish!Maybe their full of heavy metals.

are you sure its jellyfish you are digging up? I know that a lot of seaweed gives off a sharp signal. Its amazing how sharp actually and then you get excited and start digging and end up digging up slimy decomposing seaweed! Also, fresh seaweed does the same, you know the weed with the pods on it. Its such annoying stuff!

As for digging up a jellyfish, well i dont think i ever have. Jellyfish dead on the surface dont give a signal, thats why im wondering if you are actually digging decomposing weed.

I was down at merimbula yesterday and the jellies were all over the place.The ones with the purple and brown in the centre give the signal,the clear ones dont.The signal is the inverted tone like deep targets.I moved them and signal is gone.There was also hundreds of dead birds black in colour not sure the type.
Tried enhance but the signal is still there.?Never had this before.Some of the jellies are huge and have no or very short tenticles.

those birds on the beach are more than likely shearwaters, sometimes known as mutton birds.
we get a lot of dead ones up north here at this time of year.

well there you go... we dont get jellies like that here although we do at times get enormous ones washed up, i mean so big you need more than 2 hands to pick them up (not that id try).
As for the birds, we have a lot of them dead here too. Almost as bad as 1 bird every 2 meters you walk. Its unbelievable!

So other than jellies, weed and dead birds, im still waiting to stumble across a treasue from one of the 200+ shipwrecks here, lol.

I have however found an area about 2 meters by 4 meters in area with a decent signal and havent as yet been to dig it up. Who knows what something that size would be!

Did find a patch actually 6 x 20c coins lol

Had a really strong signal last year that was about 6 metres x 0.5.It ended up being about half a ton of lead ballast in tiny shot spread along about a foot deep.Two other targets were a motorcycle wheel very old and a wooden mast with iron plating around it.Sometimes also find steel winch cable.

And sometimes we get lucky

very nice collection there kingfish! I havent quite found that many rings yet, but its slowly coming along. How many gold rings would you say you have found? And how many years have you been detecting the beach? Questions questions, sorry, lol.

37 Gold and about 10 times that in silver.Best find was a small 18ct ring with 7 square cut diamonds but got an offer I couldn,t refuse.Been beach detecting about 3 years in total once or twice a week.$1200 in 1 and 2 dollar coins.Theres lots of other things of interest about 10 matchbox cars,a variety of watches,earings etc.Haven,t had any luck with chains though.

Great finds there guys,,, so can anyone detect on a beach ??? is there any rules associated with finds etc ??? is there an unwritten code when it comes to beach detecting ??

I really dont know about QLD laws but here in vic, as long as its not national or marine park, then yes we can detect. But i did ring and ask fisheries where i 'cant' detect just to be sure.
Same rules really.... fill in your holes. But i only use a sand scoop. And i NEVER dig with my bare hands only for the fact that i dont want to be pinned by a syringe. It can be really quite scary what things like that you find on a populated beach, but then you get some really 'clean' beaches too.
I do get a giggle at some poor buggers expence though.... when i seem to find a lot of car keys and wonder who had to walk home to get the spare set, lol. Actually ive found car keys in the bush too, which would be far worse!
Never found a gold ring yet but plenty of silver, coins, chains, earings etc.
As for finds, well ive been told that anything i find of value is 'lost property' and should be handed in to the police and if unclaimed you get it back. The other side is anything washed up on a beach (maybe from a wreck or something) comes under maritime law and certainly if its worth anything they will take it.
So its your decision what you do with any finds.
I know what i do (along with everyone else, lol)
