Re: False signals
Forky,
We need more information;
Is it when you bump something?
Is it at centre of your swing or when you are far left or right?
Are you sure you don't have any metal in your boots.
Are you bumping the coil connection into the front of the box?
Probably more but that's a start.

If you swing right handed coil the cable up the stick clock wise when looking down towards coil. When a loops passes the handle it should be on the outer side.
Lastly fit the plug and finger tighten it, give it a wiggle and it will probably finger tighten another half turn or so.

Re: False signals
What timing are you in, "Enhance" "Normal" or "Special", Enhance should give you a lot less false signals, Normal will give you many more false signals, Special gives you a few choices like Smooth and Sensitive Extra etc, Smooth will give you less false signals also.
The switches on the front determine what choices are active in the back menu.
And wet ground will give more false signals than dry ground, also charcoal and clay domes etc also give a signal, it's a jungle out there.
cheers dave

Re: False signals
Also is it a new detector from a dealer or second hand from eBay or the like?

Re: False signals
The detector was brought new from a dealer , I have checked connectors before all good. I am running in enhance , I have found gold with this machine but just find it frustrating to use.
Here are the settings Iam using
Threshold 12 Oclock
Search Gen
Timings Enhance
Ground Balance Fixed
Vol Limit 12
GB Type Gen
Motion Slow
RX Gain 9
Audio Type Normal
Audio Tone 58
Stabilizer 8
Signal 17
Target Vol 16
Response Normal
Track Speed Med
Iron Reject off
I hope this helps

Re: False signals
Maybe there's a storm somewhere and you are picking up lightning flashes? The detector can pick up storms a few hundred KMs away...

Only difference from what I used from those settings were (In Red beside yours) plus I always use a B&Z booster and dual external speakers.
I always used mono coils, in the past I used the 11" Minelab Commander mono heaps, also the round 16" Advantage Nugget Finder mono, and more recently I have tried the 12" Evolution Nugget Finder mono. I mostly now use my GPZ7000, but what I have described is how I used to run the GPX4500.
If your still having problems then go back to the dealer and get them to sort it out, or at the very least give you some help.

G'day Forky,
I would try running the audio in the quiet mode and see if that makes a difference. Other than that I would try running it in the FP and see if that makes it run quieter.
Cheers.

Re: False signals
Hi Forky
First thing I would look at would be to replace your "curly" cable. I.e. from battery to control box.
You may be pleasantly surprised.
Cheers spinna
