Mass Extinctions Tied to Past Climate Changes
Fossil and temperature records over the past 520 million years show a correlation between extinctions and climate change
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/mass-extinctions-tied-to-past-climate-changes/
Many scientists now believe that we are in another mass extinction event due to anthropogenic climate change!

The world is in serious doo doo.
We have approx153 years of gas remaining.
40 years of oil
400 years of coal.

Ships, planes n trains will not get far without oil

Renewables will never compensate  for the losses caused by the depletion  of these commodities.

Nuclear energy is the only way to go. It will last for eons. We have truck loads of uranium and it free up our remaining oil and coal and gas to be used for more life sustaining purposes and allow our military services to exist for a longer time period and we are going to need them even more in the future.
There are hundreds of nuclear powered military ships in the oceans around the world ; do you ever hear of them having radiation leaks and crew members dying in droves from radiation poisoning. NO YOU DO NOT

Nine nuclear submarines are known to have sunk: two U.S. Navy vessels, five in service to the Soviet navy, and two Russian boats. Three of these—USS Thresher, USS Scorpion, and the K-141 Kursk—were lost with all hands aboard.5 Aug 2023 [I googled it]

And that's the one that we know of?
what's the radiation doing to our marine life??

We are going to need all of the coal, oil and gas that we can get our hands on for the approaching world war with China. They are ready now , we are not even close to being ready with our toy military strength.

You cannot power war machines from a wind farm or solar panel or or a lithium battery Rolling Eyes

It is not us who will pick the fight. We do not have enough military strength to stop a runaway goggomobil.
China has amassed a huge military force, they do not fear anybody and nobody is going to invade China .
Anyway maybe all of those missiles n nukes that they put on display now and a gain are just cardboard replicas.\ and those wonderfully lined up troops marching in the street are just paid actors. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Mass Extinctions Tied to Past Climate Changes Empty Re: Mass Extinctions Tied to Past Climate Changes

Post  Kon61gold Sun Sep 03, 2023 10:30 pm

I for one might not know much about why or how the effects of Climate Change over the centuries occur (for like many on here) prefer to hear of such information coming from reputable sources concerned with such.
Regardless of ones trade or background education, one things for certain about man, is that we all tend to not put down the whole story & nothing but the whole story as backed up by undeniable sound facts/figures, coming from all reputable sources of information, so as to come up with some sound form of conclusion, as to how best to tackle the problems of climate change.
If only mans reasoning to any topic/discussion, consisted of the whole truth, through undeniable reputable sources of information(non fiction facts/figures) & not through ones own strong personal beliefs, self interests or gain, (as shown by big corporate bodies/governments/media outlets etc), maybe then we could all come to some form of understanding/agreement on how best to tackle the issues/problems at hand.
Sadly the world is slowly drowning out truth/facts, in preference of more fiction, for reasons mentioned above, but only to our own demise.
The way I see it at the moment, Climate Change is a science, with one to many missing variables/factors within any well known/established man made formulae, in order to predict Climate change accurately, 10, 20, or even 50 years from now. But in saying all this, the world is undergoing dramatic change in climate, as is being seen across the world & on a more regular basis now year after year, than the odd spell of deluge, once every 20, 50 or 100 years or so back.
Now does all this mean man should not worry about climate change & sit back & watch it unfold naturally over the next generation or so? Certainly not is the answer. If Climate continues to reek havoc year after year, some form of action or another, needs to be taken in order to help reduce such drastic changes in climate, in order for countries around the world to continue surviving or no doubt, pay a hefty price for doing nothing at all.
The reduction of man made Co2 emissions, are only a small step towards helping reduce or keep the earths temperature from rising, for no doubt there's a whole lot more going on here, contributing to such climate change, than just the burning of fossil fuels.
Adrian, I wouldn't be to concerned with China, they've currently got a million & one problems of their own to contend with, not alone open up a war, that all of mankind might regret dearly.
I'd worry more of how our own government, goes about in sorting out the high cost of inflation/living expenses (& not just through raising ones taxes) burdening the average tax payer with even more.
As for who's got the most nukes at their disposal ready to fire, I can only hope & pray, for the sake of us all, such weapons of mass destruction are never used & maybe over time, all nations of the world, wake up to themselves & agree to dispose of such weapons all together, even though I know, this is only wishful thinking on my behalf.

WA’s economy has been propping up the country for quite a while now.  It is not surprising then, that a little extra CO might get out from time to time.

However, looking at that map, it clearly shows that the prevailing wind direction is from the East.  The more likely scenario is that the CO plume resulted from lighting up all the bullshite that goes on over there! Very Happy

I think maybe the burn offs up near Broome are trying for another Extinction Event by creating all of that Carbon Monoxide pollution... (way worse than carbon) dioxide health wise.
https://www.broomead.com.au/news/wa/smoke-haze-warning-issued-for-perth-c-1033068

People in Sydney are  moaning about the little bit of pollution being caused by the local burn offs. These burn offs are only just visible on Ventusky pollution map but what you blokes are creating in WA is waaaay worse than the Sydney burn offs.......Lucky nobody of importance lives in WA Q35 Q25 Q40 Q35

Adrian, as you are well aware (or are you?) the Ventusky air quality data is a measure of pollutants that have a direct impact on human health and that are commonly monitored for air quality assessments.

While burn offs can contribute pollutants like particulate matter and ozone, CO2 and CO are not included in that measurement.

As far as “nobody of importance lives in WA”, that’s just how we like it.  All those that think that they are a little bit important, qiss off to the ACT.  Very Happy

The map I put up a few posts back is the Ventusky display of the CO (Carbon Monoxide) concentration for now.    Tomorrow it will be different.
The map can display Various parameters as per this link.
https://www.ventusky.com/?p=14;88;1&l=wind-10m

If you open the Air Quality selection you will be able to see the concentrations of :
Particulate matter of :
2.5PM  & 10.0PM.
NO2.......Nitrogen Dioxide
SO2.......SulfUr Dioxide
O3........Ozone
Dust.......Atmospheric dust
CO.....Carbon Monoxide
AQI.....Overall Air Quality

PS

It's The same everywhere; The country gets a bit dry and somebody has to set light to it. You have to wonder about the logic in that aye?
Take Sydney for example; they have not had a burn off for a number of years and so some bright spark says beaudy lots of stuff to burn, lets have a burn off, flames are sooo nice ta look at.
And now Sydney is all in smoke...But who cares, those flames are just sooo pretty.
Why does it matter if a few asthmatics have an attack and die as a result of these burn offs? Like I mean it is all for the greater good....isn't it. pale

Mass Extinctions Tied to Past Climate Changes Empty NUCLEAR IN THE MIX

Post  granite2 Wed Sep 27, 2023 4:30 pm

Watching Albo and black out Bowen lying through their teeth about nuclear power has me wondering why they are so rabid in their refusal to drop the ban on nuclear.
Lie one: nuclear is more expensive than any other way to generate electricity. Definitely untru. Bowen quotes 380 billion to replace our 70 coal fired power stations. A SMR averages out at about 3 billion per unit or about 210 billion to replace all 70 coal plants. What he smugly omits is that about only a third of the coal stations would need to be replaced as we would still have wind and solar in the mix.
The other bit dumb and dumber never tell you is the 20.000km of new grid that has to be built to accommodate the wind and solar scattered all about the country like confetti. This is estimated to have a final cost of over a trillion dollars... if it ever gets built.
And while dumb and dumber consider themselves smugly smarter than the governments of the 32 countries either into or working frantically toward nuclear the world is looking at us and rolling their eyes and wondering why we are so stupid.
At the very least they could drop the ban on nuclear and allow the nuclear industry to look at the feasibility of building a few nukes around our vast country and give us some cheap power.
France and Canada provide about a two thirds of their power from nuclear at a cost to their customers less than half of what we pay.
As for nuclear waste, those countries who do have nuclear have been managing their waste quite well for many decades, why couldn't we find somewhere to put ours in our vast country? Commonwealth land like Woomera would do nicely. I know aborigines would jack up at that but after all there would be no one living anywhere near the storage facility so it'd be no problem.
In fact the entire objection to nuclear in Australia is a manufactured problem that doesn't really exist. If the Libs went to the next election on a platform of nuclear power they'd win hands down.

The question of nuclear in Australia’s energy sector
Key points
Nuclear power does not currently provide an economically competitive solution in Australia.
Lead author of Gencost, Paul Graham says the main area of uncertainty with nuclear is around capital costs.
There is a lack of robust real-world data around small modular reactors (SMRs) due to low global use.

Presented by the RE people who are, with good reason afraid what SMRs are going to do to their industry.
If they are wrong why not drop the ban on nuclear and let private. Industry see if nuclear energy is viable in Australia.
If the won't support dropping the ban then we know they are lying.

Gentlemen, Climate Change, like politics is a never ending debate. You'll find yourselves arguing the wrongs/rights of what should or should not be done to the point of exhaustion. Shocked
The problem here is that governing authorities (whether in the right or wrong) will do as they see fit.  It really is not up to us mushrooms who are constantly kept in the dark by government coffers & fed BS till we ourselves start believing in the BS going round to be true Shocked Laughing
I always say what is the point to any debate, when one has no power over such matter, but ends up arguing, for arguments sake alone?
The filthy rich & powerful, together with governing authorities, will always have the upper hand towards the final say as to what decision will be or will not be taken in order to combat climate change & or that of what new form of sustainable power to be used, instead of the constant burning off of fossil fuels.
So please give it a rest, or I'll be forced to lock up this topic & or any other topic of similar guise.

Nuclear Power is going to happen  in Australia eventually because wind , solar and batteries can not cope with what is going to be a huge increase in demand for electricity....Due to our immigration policies being ludicrous.
Triple our hydro electricity generating capability.
Uranium share price is low at the moment so dig deep and buy some shares, Buy big for the future of our kids. You may not profit from them but your kids will.

As for electric cars (Change of topic)

In Australia these ev's are good for round town driving, dropping the kids off to school and going to pick up the groceries... Try touring in one here over our long distances between cities will find you stranded on a highway or bush road with a flat battery.  That will be fun.

I had a close look at a nice looking Tesla EV on display in a shopping centre here, The bonnet and boot lid was up. There was no sign of an engine Laughing
The instrument panel was a laptop monitor stuck in the middle of the dash panel that the driver has to take his/ her eyes away from the road to see what is on display...Totally stupid and dangerous. On the other hand what instruments do you need in an Ev?? Charge meter, Voltmeter and a speedo. The car itself was nothing but a shell with a battery and kitchy elec motor...The car looked like a brick on wheels and totally non aerodynamic .Fair price would  be 15 grand , not the asking 67,000 au dollars.

You would reckon that they would build these cars such that they would slip through the air- stream with ease but no they are like a monster mini suv.
With all lights on and the aircon running you are not going to get much more than a couple of hundred clicks out of one of these EV's between recharges.
