What Is Happening To Garrett?

So what is happening to Garrett metal detectors? They seem to be stagnating and have not come out with  great detector since the ATX, and even that was based around the Infinium and a mine detector.
Maybe their hobby hand held metal detector manufacture is going the way of Tesoro?
Also Whites and Fisher have become a bit boring although the Whites BH TDI and the TDI PR OZ are good if you like beach hunting. The TDI OZ does a fair job in the gold fields.

Trouble is it is still a single frequency machine and a tricked up version of the AT Pro and AT Gold. Nothing new really.

By the looks of it, a major stagnation across the board of most metal detecting companies Adrian  All that's been showing up in the last few years is based more around cosmetic changes to past technology, than innovation towards more powerful new concepts. Alas, detecting technology has all but hit rock bottom

I think you are correct Kon.
Even the trendy coin and relic machines with tricky visual displays still have limited discriminating ability that is really not much better than some of my old VLf TR machines. Detectors like the Equinox are good but really not much better than my Sov XS and Safari. My Whites 6000 DI Pro and 6000 DI Series 3 each have an excellent analogue discrimination display that is very very accurate and the disc display operates in the GB All Metal mode. These tactas are ancient.
I guess there is only so much info you can extract from a magnetic wave and eddy currents aye. We need a new detection concept.

Garrett released a new pi nugget machine tuesday morning here in the states. Testers still kinda tight lipped on performance, did see one in oz detecting down to 1 grain nuggets pretty consistently. Interesting it has 4 manually adjusted timings. Nothing automatic but the emi check. Unlike the new gpx6000.

Like most Garrett Video's, they do not give much away as to the full capability of their machines.
Showing a few holes where some small nuggs were recovered is not a lot of use to anybody. I would prefer to hear the actual target signal response while it is still in the ground plus a clear indication of how well the tecta handles the ground minerals.

At that price I would perhaps be looking at obtaining one from USA.

It is supposed to be good at finding 0.1g bits at about 3 inches in the ground.
So that will be approx 1000 bits of 0.1g gold before the machine will have paid for itself. .......Tiddlers are about all that anybody finds these days.....I will stay with my beach detecting, it doesn't take long to ping a few good weight 18k gold rings plus the environment is great with nice warm sunny days, warm sandy beaches, hot bikini clad babes wanting to know what I am doing........Get a bit tired of tecting so it is off to the cafe for a burger and a cuppa then a little rest on the sand  feeding the sea gulls then back into the tecting for a few more gold rings... Do not need an EPIRB, no rampaging camels or wild dogs, cranky brown snakes, Drop Bears n Bull Ants. Just surf sun and sand.......Yeah right.

I see they have included a ground balance read out on the display panel.  Like my Gold Bug DP and a couple of my older Whites coin and vlf gold machines; It is handy I guess although I do not take much notice of it, I just listen to the audio.
The Axiom seems like it will be a nice machine for those with a bit of cash to splash

Will be a available here in September I have heard for 7 and a bit grand.

There are a few places in Oz that currently sell Axiom at a more realistic price.
Had one delivered for free with FedEx yesterday.

Blimey Ivanll is there a detector that you have not tried out?
