Well I guess you make a divi it up plan before you go out. If you decide to share then that is what you do. However I reckon that if you have split from the group and find a biggun that takes half a day to get out of the ground....Just how keen will you be on sharing it ?? Hmmmmm?

If you want the respect of your mates, then keep your gold finds. Continuously sharing gold finds equally, does not spur one another on, instead, it brings forth complacency. Now what one wishes to donate of their finds, through their own generosity, is another thing altogether. Different laws would apply to an equally shared prospecting lease or mining tenement. Like many a person here, I'v had my days in sharing gold finds, only to end up disputing questions like "but I do more ground time than you" or "why do you get to choose the best looking ones" or "but my detectors a lot better or more expensive than yours", or "but if it wasn't for me bringing you here, would you have found anything?"  I'm sure you all get my drift.
When metal detecting as individuals, each with their own knowledge/equipment, one must learn to expect nothing from anyone else, except the fruits of their own labour, or don't go out detecting at all.
Sharing the knowledge, of where good, shallow, detectable nuggety gold, has been found in the past, is more valuable to me in the long term, than any single individual gold find or patch of nuggets.  I agree with Eureka Dreams here, as mates, you can share all other expenses associated in the hunt for "The Golden Ointment",  but the gold you find, was meant to be found by you & belongs to you & you alone.

I always seemed to be the one that had others tagging along with me and was happy for the company.We shared the camp but each one worked to thier own timetable
and ability and kept what they found. If one was lucky enough to strike a small run it was theirs for as long as they wished,The others might detect in the area
but respect the finders space..

Ok so you are out with your mates on an organised group detecting date and you find a patch. Do you call your mates over to detect the same area or do you keep it quiet??

If one found a patch we shared the location with the three others.
We worked it until it was fished out then called the one with the most "Lucky b**tard" then enjoyed another beer or three.

I would definitely tell my mates. But I also know they would leave the patch to me, as I would if they found a patch. Plenty of bush and gold out there.
