Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Yes well I as one who always like to look on the bright side of these things, will sleep well in the knowledge that I should be able to get quality service for my old 45 (purchased second hand) for a good few years to come.
Never had any plans to sell it and certainly won't be selling it now.
All I need now is some good weather, a trip away and a bit of luck and it will be business as usual for me.
Now where is that good weather.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Thanks Lee for reminding me that there is such a thing as Paradise when it comes to good weather. I can't recall seeing more than two days of it in a row over the last two months or more here where I am. Can't even get cars out of my garage and up the driveway, the ground is so wet here. Good thing I don't need those ones on a day to day basis or might have better use for Ms Bishop's helicopter.
I believe the opposite to paradise might be the Mornington Peninsula for the time being at least mbasko
Never fear the good times are coming.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Miners Den are also offering get the 45 for $3299 and they`ll throw in an Elite for $250.
For $3549 you get the 4500, the 11" dd, the 15x12 mono and the Coiltek Elite
It`s a pretty good deal

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Wow that's real cheap i payed 3200 for one 6 weeks back of ebay, had it checked by minelab works great, found some nice gold over the last few weeks with the elite coil on 4500 i could of waited to get the deal but i would of not found the nice bits , im sure theirs more to it must be a new detector coming out from one of the others, been some talk of this for some time.
Could buy a spare one and sell of the coils , that might work .

GPX 4500 RE -INTRODUCED
Hi Folk, If this happens what price will 5000 second hand be??? maybe $3800 $4000 max there goes my start for 7000, maybe have to mod my 5000,!!!! Ron.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
You mod your 5k and you can expect to get less for it than i new 4500. No dealer is interested and Minelab wont repair it should it fail. And if you feel you need to have a 5k modded, you need to reevaluate your level of confidence.ron allen wrote:Hi Folk, If this happens what price will 5000 second hand be??? maybe $3800 $4000 max there goes my start for 7000, maybe have to mod my 5000,!!!! Ron.
If modded detectors were a happening thing....it would be common knowledge and we'd all have them modded.....Minelab would source one to see what all the fuss was over and it would become the next model. Its not happened in all these years thus far, could be a good reason for that.?
The best mod to a detector you can do is...... you.
Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Yes you are correct about these mods ive been down that road and i will not be going back ive found more yellow with stock detectors .i had f1a4 gp3500 all with mods , why did i waist my time on these mods i don't know, just get a 4500 or 5000 don't upset the electronics by extra timings it might look good on you tube oscilloscope but it does not work in the real world. The new coils are the way to go low and slow.
At these current prices on a 4500 who would even think about it .

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
My thoughts are that the metal detector side of codan is in ths sh$t and they are selling what they can for maximum return. Any $$$'s they make would be good profit and machine would be costing them very little to manufacture.
Just my thoughts. TG

I think your right, The only thing there thinking of is profit, but that goes for any business, That the name of the game it just hurts to think a man looses $1000 just like that. Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Its all correct and Miners Den have it on special, $3299 till the end of this month. If it was out a couple of months earlier I would have bought one instead of the 5000 with pro pack.
For an extra $250 they will include a $450 Coiltek Elite Mono with the 4500!

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
well, heres some questions - did minelab know about the new coiltech and nugget finder coils coming on market soon?
is that why, in retrospect, the 7000 seems to have been rushed onto the market?
would i buy a 7000 now?
my answers ------- ( i already bought the 7000 in early march, have found $6000 of gold with it) a big NO.
there isnt a lot of people reporting "a opening up of the goldfields again". good operators had done a pretty good job on their known patches. the new coils seem to have closed the gap a great deal.
i reckon anybody new to the game or upgrading from further back then the 4000 would be wasting a lot of money buying the gpz7000. in todays world it has got to be considered overpriced ... kev

Hey Kev
We with the "Antiquated" units really appreciate your candour in relation to whether you would upgrade to the GPZ, it certainly sounds like the new coils will make a big difference to the old units for a much "LOWER" price/ investment, time in the field & other costs must all be considered in the choice to upgrade units or coils.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Does anyone know if this new re-introduced 4500 has the "improved" threshold and Enhance timing which were apparently in the 4800 and 5000?
If these 4500's really are new production and not old stock, there might be a good chance of it being the case.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Mate I don`t work for Minelab but I would think this new release 4500 would be the same as the original. It`s a smart move on Minelabs part.
No R&D, no extra tooling costs, just start re building the same thing again.

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
Placed an order with Miners Den, their offer with a Coiltek 14 inch elite mono coil was to good to refuse.
Looking forward to revisiting patches that I've found with the 3500 (will keep it as a backup).
Happy Hunting

I have no doubt that you're right. The reason is asked is that a friend called Minelab and asked the same question to them. The answer was that they are not old stock but are new production "re-worked" units.
If they are totally unchanged, then I wouldn't be calling them "re-worked"

Re: GPX 4500 Re-Introduced!
I'm seriously considering the 45 package with the elite coil
For the same offer as the other detecting prospecting shops
From central west prospecting supplies in mudgee !
Think my old faithful 45 has earned retirement !
And can sit as my spare and for special occasions as she's earnt her weight in gold literally

The GPX5000 was touted as having "Improved Enhance Timing for more depth". Maybe this is the reworking they are speaking of - tweaking the enhance timing on the 4500 to 5000 spec?lenoil wrote:phoenix wrote:Mate I don`t work for Minelab but I would think this new release 4500 would be the same as the original. They might not be old stock but I've got no doubt they are excess. The GPX4500 has always still been made for the African detector market just not available in Australia after the release of the 5000.
Downturn in African sales = savings for us.

Mate she may be warn and out
But you've seen her in action !
And she's a freak on massive depth
And may only consider a swap of a gpz
And cash my way

She is a fine 4500 but the freakish nature of the finds may have something to do with the arm in the cuff too. My arm may not do it justice
GPZ & cash your way. You may just get some offers from someone who thinks their zed is a white

Sorry, I should clarify:
That exact question / scenario regarding improved enhance, GB, threshold was asked and the ML employee APPARENTLY said in one sentence that they will be totally unchanged. "Re-worked" was mentioned in another sentence. Then, when asked to clarify the "re-worked" comment, the ML employee then repeated that they will be unchanged.
Related, I have noticed that the very late 4500's that were available to us in Aust seem to run much better than most of the earlier ones. Maybe any improvements had already been done.
