New or old gpx 4500
Hi Looking at a 9 year old GPX 4500 for $3000 ? is there much fifferance in the workings ?.
How long do the cables last ? etc what should I be looking for and by the way I wont see it befor I buy it will come by post so have to believe what the seller tells me ? Or do I just buy a new one for an extra #500..
Thanks

Re: New or old gpx 4500
G'day Wayneo
You're talking 9 years old as compared to the same model detector (brand new) with all warranties included for an extra $500. From my point of view (& mine only) it's a no brainer Wayneo. Save the extra $500 & go brand new. Unless of course the older 4500 comes with many a spare coil or accessory that you might see as useful. Not always an easy decision if you can't see in person, the condition of what you are buying.
Being the same Identical model of detector, I'd expect similar or no difference in the operational workings or performance. As for how long anything lasts depends on the amount & type of use an Item has undergone, or put through, for not all treat their equipment with TLC so to speak.
Cheers Kon.

Re: New or old gpx 4500
What Kon said.
Electronics deteriorate. Capacitors age, LCD displays fade, coils get troublesome and most importantly, batteries don't hold their charge. You may not notice the difference unless you can compare side by side. Some will even claim that the old equivalent model is more stable/sensitive/etc but again without direct comparison, who knows.
It hurts to sell old equipment cheap (I had a 4000) but in reality, expectations are usually unrealistic.

Mate it's no where near a flip of the coin, reviews on youtube etc can make anything look good. My advice is to ask yourself what do most people use that regularly find gold use, and your answer will be a Minelab machine, and whats more the GPX4500 was and still is an excellent machine, I know mine paid for itself many many times over, and now well it's my spare machine and I use the GPZ7000.
But if your just starting out I would not hesitate to say get the GPX4500 either new or a good second hand one, and most importantly get it from a Minelab dealer that way you know for sure your not going to get a dodgy Chinese copy.

I'm with you dave, 4500 will preform a lot better!!! I missed my shot with the 4500 as I went from the SD2000 to the GPX4000 onto the 5000 and now the 7000 but blokes I swing with love the 4500 and they have pulled some wicked nuggys over the years

The GPX4500 will come with 2 coils, an 11" mono and an 11" DD, some of the dealers may be adding an extra coil in as a special bundle.
If your looking at another coil to purchase then the flat wound camo coloured 14" Coiltec Mono has had some very impressive results.
Use the mono coils where and whenever you can, the 11" mono that comes with the GPX4500 is an excellent coil and we had very good results with this coil, but now to get a slight advantage over the older style coils, the newer flat wound coils are getting results with the GPX model machines.

Re: New or old gpx 4500
Hi Wayne.I have a new 4500 and also had one from the first batch when released. They both worked identical in terms of depth but I must say the new one is very quiet. This may just be because it is new.The enhance on the new 4500 is identical to the 5000 enhance as I spent a few months last season comparing them. The Audio is different to the 5000 when using the same setup but I can't explain the difference yet still working on that one.
The battery from the our old 5000 is about 7 years old and still perfect it charges and lasts the same as our new 4500.
You certainly can't go wrong with a new 4500 for the price is the bargain.Plenty of coils to choose from too.
