How much is a gpz7000 really worth?
Based on reviews, word of mouth etc ,etc l wouldn't pay any more than $7000 for this machine with its one coil. The true value of the 7000 can only be evaluated upon release of larger coils whenever that might be.

Re: How much is a gpz7000 really worth?
You have to add in the 5 years of R & D at a cost of $10,000,000 AUD, plus the popularity of gold prospecting, note there is a waiting list of would be purchasers.
If the GPZ was priced at what you are saying it would result in a significant decline in the amount of detectable gold and the more activity on the field the more opposition from the green lobby against prospecting!
The VNPA is calling for all remaining state forest within the GT to go to State Park land status, this will enable them to close off the majority of public land to prospecting and NO MATTER HOW much noise the PMAV makes they will be powerless to stop the restrictions on our activities.

I like to think that bundled in with that price are a number of software upgrades, perhaps in the form of tweaks, bug fixes, new options and possibly even new timings.
People don't realise that Minelab have been listening all along. I've seen it mentioned over the years especially after the release of the first digital unit, the 4K, that Minelab should bring out software upgrades instead of just incremental upgrades in hardware. Well I believe the 7K is it. The brochure says "GPZ 7000 and WM 12 upgradeable via XChange 2 (with internet connection)"
So perhaps updates will occur until the hardware is mature, and then the next XXXXX unit will emerge.
Maybe we should allow them some breathing space, after all the gold has been a long time in the making.
Cheers

Re: How much is a gpz7000 really worth?
The $10700 price tag originaly included the 20" coil but the big coil got held up in production because of back injuries to the slave labor force who were assembling them. You know, OH & S. So until they can reduce the weight of the 20" coil down to a manageable 4 kg's they will just sell them with superlight 14" dod coil and hope no one notices that they've also paid for the 20" coil .

You are joking? Aren't you? Hope you are
Talk is they haven't made a 20 inch coil yet..
And word around is its not going to be a 20 inch coil but an 18 inch one, unless I have heard wrong.
P.s Just like to let everyone know, your wording about this detector is being spread like a virus through the internet.. Fair enough have your say. But for those that don't own a Gpz7000 or haven't used one....
to be bad mouthing it.
Well it's not good!
This machine does work! The user has to walk over the gold.
Sorry for those that don't agree with me.
So on a foot note.
My words again are mine!! Copywrite!!! You know who you are

Hi Jen - word is that no sizes are set in concrete yet. Detector Prospector site has a thread asking for people to give their 2 most preferred coil sizes & ensuring Minelab are watching with interest.
If you want a bigger coil you may have to speak up - general feeling from the US is they would be happy with smaller not bigger to suit their purposes.

p.s sorry if it was me that has upset you by using one of your posts. Thought it was wise words & relevant to the discussion -

No... No... it's not you or anyone on this forum.. Well I don't think he is on this forum..
He is the biggest anti minelab person on this planet.
Takes all the negative posts, splats it all over his forum header, puts his own words to it, so it seems even worse! bad mouths the GPZ7000 yet doesn't even own one!!!
Bans anyone who likes a minelab detector, or bans them if they disagree with him.
I am just a tad sick of his attitude.. He needs to have a good long hard look in the mirror and wake up, or get medical help!
Most will know who I am talking about.
But if anyone else wants to use anything I put up for a positive.. Go right ahead, including pictures, and vids

Even the ML website states the following. I can't find anything that says it comes with 2 coils.
"While the GPZ 7000 is supplied with the GPZ 14 Super-D coil, large and small accessory coils (purchased separately) will be available at a later date."

Re: How much is a gpz7000 really worth?
I like to think that bundled in with that price are a number of software upgrades, perhaps in the form of tweaks, bug fixes, new options and possibly even new timings.
Although a good idea and would be great to be able to plug your dectector in via a USB port and getting them to run a diagnosic on it save on bloody mail costs and these arnt that easy to ship back as the last ones. I really dont think this will happen as most failures are phyisical not software (ie components).
People don't realise that Minelab have been listening all along. From my understanding the word was they were in fact going to do software upgrades ( for the 4000 ) but that never happened, it could well be that in fact they developed component upgrades which also required software but both were needed so a new model is produced (a bit more monies ).
So i wouldnt hold my breath and besides U want to pay 2,3,5,or ? grand just for a software upgrade hmmm naaa.
Whats it worth its worth what people will pay not what you want to pay, and yer it is over priced but so be it.
Regards

Its only a matter of time before some serious competition comes into the market place if minelab price their equipment as such.Thats big money when converted into yen.Might be a good time to short sell some codan stocks.

Re: How much is a gpz7000 really worth?
Very unlikely I'll get over to WA, Qld or any other state, so after what I've physically seen it's worth nothing to me here in the GT. I'm convinced I already have the best machine for the area I hunt in.
Had it been otherwise, I have no hesitation in saying that I would have been camping out on the retailers doorstep. Maybe the next model to come out ?
Cheers
