Worth a try?

Worth a try?
Spoke to the Father-in-law and he said that the property next to him was tested for gold but there wasn't enough to mine commercially. This is going way back to the 1980's.
He has access to the land as he runs his cattle on it...so we went up to have a look and it has all of the right kind of rocks. Heaps of bedrock...quarts...and gravelly red soil.
My question is would it be worth a try?...and what does it mean that it was tested but there wasn't enough? So there IS gold present?
And how would the testing have been done? Drilling?
Going by the TV shows of gold mining...they seems to spend alot of $$$ on fixing their machinery to keep the mining going. I'd be happy with a few specks in a pan:D
I've tried doing google searches but can't find anything regarding gold in that area.
Would someone who is internet savvy like to PM me.
Cheers

Re: Worth a try?
Wayne - atm only have a Minelab Gofind which is only suitable for relic hunting. Did a bit of a walk around and found old army buttons. Apparently years ago it was an army training ground.
The creek is dry as a bone...and took some samples home but must not have dug deep enough.
Only heaps of black sand.
Cheers

Re: Worth a try?
is the black sand fine or coarse? if the sands are coarse you should be seeing some color if golds to be found in that area!
if the black sands are fine your on the right track just not in the right spot!
Good luck
