First outing with my new 5000.....
I wandered over to Talbot for a look around. Came up short on gold but got bullets, pieces of wire and other bits and pieces ...... Am I on the right track?? I had a lesson at Bendigo last weekend and that was invaluable for me as a fair dinkum newbie.

Hi Specky,
Time will come.As you have a metal detector you find all sort of metals. So its doing the job.
Its a matter of time when you walk over a gold bit.
We all started with metal detector and with practice and experience and patience it becomes a gold detector
Hey Heavy metal dont swing like mad-Remember low and slow and ground balance machine quite often.
God luck gold hunting.

Thanks for all your responses........ Checked out Dunnolly and Tarnagulla yesterday with my young bloke. Plenty of bullets, shotty pellets and general junk. Still no gold, although the heart was racing at one stage when we found a tiny piece of wire about 10 cm deep in hard packed clay and shale. Bugger!!

Re: First outing with my new 5000.....
G'day,
If you are still "swinging like mad" slow right down get the coil down just brushing the ground and concentrate on those softer more mellow tones that indicate a gold target. You'll get there just patience and concentration required.
Have fun
John
