Hi Big Fella,
Hope Your all better after getting A Year OLDER.
You done a great job of helping others & so did other Members who gave up their detecting time to help others. ( MARINER, GOLD MINER 997, WOMBAT + OTHERS ) Not to mention the time & effort that went into organising the MEET UP.

Laanecoorie Bash 2013 Have Your Say
Unfortunately I have been unable to attend either of the functions at Laanecoorie. However, based on the information and recommendations in these posts I have just returned from a week based at the caravan park run by Jim. The recommendation was 100% spot-on and I had a wonderful time. I got four pieces. Three nuggets and a speccie - all hovering around the gram, so I was very happy. Weather was cold to say the least. I shall be returning!! Thankyou forum members for the wonderful tips and recommendations. I can see why you all enjoyed it. The non-powered sites are great and the showers were great. Nice view of the lake/reservior as well. All in all - I recommend the location as well. Hope to see you in 2013.

Laanecoorie 2013
Hi Peter & Elsie,
Have just returned from holidays and am now ready to go. If you wish, I will draft an agenda so that we may have some discussion re next year. I am uncertain about Wombat's availability as he is finishing off his new burrow, however, I will try to determine his availability so we can move forward. I hope you do not think I am trying to interfere with the process simply trying to get organized.
Kind regards

Sounds like a great event---
Hi all,
This event sounds really exciting and is exactly the kind of thing I've been looking to get involved in.
As a complete novice and newbie I would not look for, nor expect an older, more experienced person to be there to 'hold-my-hand' and teach me everything they know. That is not why I am getting into this hobby - after all, half the fun will be learning by having a go.
That is not to say that I would not appreciate the help and advice that others might choose to pass on - having been a teacher for over twenty years, I do understand the benefit of experience and assistance.
I would value the kind of advice one might learn from Big Fella, for example, sitting around a fire having a few beers. Equally, I would also appreciate the designated activities that other experienced operators might choose to offer to newbies such as myself - sessions with a group would be invaluable learning experiences and the some of the tips one might pick up probably can't be learned from any book.
As a newbie, I would choose to be involved in whatever activities helped me to learn about my newfound hobby that were graciously on offer and I would 'network' with any interesting character I happened to meet. I would expect nothing from anyone other than friendship and civility - traits not easily found in abundance these days. And lastly, like others that have contributed to this thread, my campsite would be open to all for conviviality, a few cold ones and a yarn or two.
PS - sorry, but I love country music, old and new, fast and slow, and a visit to my campsite would probably mean you would hear it in the background.
Now there is a thought - how about entertainment for the Saturday night? A singer/guitarist, or duo, or similar might prove great fun?

Re: Laanecoorie Bash 2013 Have Your Say
Sounds Awesome guys..
Great ideas put forward so far include -
1. 'Name tags' colour coded is good idea for different skill levels - Nicknames or real names is optional
2. The team events with a couple begineers/intermediates/old timers + team leader hitting a certain area (picked by the team leader) and gold tallied for a group prize ($2 shops sell 5 small trophies for $2, that plus a label maker and viola a ready made trophy) + bragging rights till next year..Teams should be chosen each morning at a set time and team members introduced to each other, this would make people interact with different people from the very beginning of each day, throughout the day and possibly into the night.
Different teams should be chosen for each day and this would ensure a broader interaction.
3. Prize for most interesting relic/largest nugget/most amount found etc - You would have to register for these competitions and pay $5? for registration each day...the money used towards the prizes and/or local charity group?
4. A 'stall' - (manned Sunday afternoon) of uni-sex polo tops + bumper stickers = available for ordering with 'Laanecoorie 2013' combined withan image of a detector crossed with a pick or prospector etc. The local charity group could take a commision on sales - if they man the stall and take the orders?
5. BBQ organised by (again) the local charity group (Saturday night) - everyone pays $10/head and get a BBQ w salad bread etc
I don't know who organises these things, but I am happy to assist with chasing up any aspect of the above..
Count me and the 'digger' in...thats my wife - she's a 'gold digger' and a gold exploration geologist - we can ask her all the hard questions of

Re: Laanecoorie Bash 2013 Have Your Say
Gday all
Yeah as a newbie it is sometimes like you are ignored a lot but as to color coded name tags I think this would help newbies be ignored even more(been there done that with 4x4 clubs it aint very nice) just a name tag with your screen name in bold then what you like to be called underneath would be better & maybe logo bearing hats or something for the organisers & or people that are willing to help out with teaching newbies.
As from previous experience a lot of people are always going to stick in their own little groups which is fine thats just the way they are, can't stop it so don't try. Yes it would be a great idea like previously said 3 or more newbies plus 2 experienced & one expert would be a great thing to run a little treasure hunt say on Sunday morning, then come back have lunch & start the raffles etc. If you have to make tracks this way at least it won't be after dark before you set off if you have too.
Cheers Tony
