Re: Berry springs N.T
Having lived in Darwin for 27 years, I can tell you there is no detectable gold at Berry Springs, however it is a lovely spot for a swim !

Re: Berry springs N.T
Having lived in Darwin since 1975 I can tell you different, well not exactly Berry Springs, however Tumbling Waters has Gold as does the Blackmore river, It however also has bloody Crocodiles. there is alluvial gold there as well as tin. suggest you do some serious looking on the net, and you will find that there were many mines in the area. It is an extension of the Rum Jungle mining area which has many different mineralisations!
Now, I havent actually found any myself, because I havent looked, just getting back into fossicking again after doing it as a boy, kids have grown up etc etc. My Great uncle however used to go out to Tunbling Waters, dont know where wouldnt tell me and pan for Gold, showed me a couple of BEX aspirin bottles full of fine gold, real old timers here will remember that most prospectors used bex bottles in the old days. have seen that in Victoria as well as the NT. He used to go out to get money for Christmas for his children when he got old but was from 1932 a professional prospector in the Top End, even through the War he used to mine tantalite for the War Effort employing a number of Aborigines, he showed me the Papers that allowed Aborigines to live in his mining camps.
I would suggest that you had a look at the following:
• 1865 June 28. H.F.Litchfield was the first to strike gold in the Northern Territory. A 52 ounce nugget found in the Finniss River, Tumbling Waters area.
Sadly my computer HDD got a major Virus last week and all my research was on it. Maps etc I will update this as soon as I can fix the Virus problem. I have put a new HDD on to the computer!
It seems that I cannot post links either as I am a newbie so I suggest you Google Tumbling waters goldfields there is a great article from the NT Government
