5 Days for a 2g gold ring (Updated today)
Finally hit pay dirt in open ground
Admittedly only a couple of hours each day, probably 8 hours all up due to the rain.

Just hoping theres something else in the area will try gridding with the 14" tomorrow,I'll bring the camera to shoot the area. The camera is a Ricoh Caplio G4 paid a lot I think $400 when they came out but was told the macro works well.
UPDATE!
Well put in a solid 4 hours and managed to unearth one 0.4g nugget.Anyway though I'd show the area.
My favourite gully leading to the area I found the 2 nuggets.
Up the first hill (Too much EMI here) then down a gully and back up a second hill then over the top to this next location
First nugget found 2 gram ring shape
2nd nugget found 0.4g about 10 meters from the first
A quartz and ironstone ridge just visible running across the hill the likely source of the gold. The nuggets were found just slightly down hill fron the ridge unfortunately the clay depth quickly deepens might have to get the big guns out(18 mono).

He must have put his pick through the nugget when he dug it out, quick go back and find the bit that fell out of the middle.

Interesting piece of gold, definately one for the pool room - Congratulations and I hope it turns into a patch. If it does, it will be interesting to see the shape/form of its mates. Is it connected in a full ring? If so you could speculate on an unusual form of mineralisation - do I see some host rock in the pic?
Anticipation of a possible patch is a great feeling, again well done.

Unbelieveable bad luck there Deutran, that nugget must have been incredibly soft for the pick to go right through it, as Gcause pointed out

Thanks Lee I will be going over again with a larger coil, the area is quite large and the whole area is detectable so I,ve got some weeks work there just tackle it a bit at a time.

Re: 5 Days for a 2g gold ring (Updated today)
Hi Deutran
When was the fire last through that area? man it look barren (plant life), It may pay you to do a little sampleing along the base of the ridge, loaming, if this is the source there should be alot of fine gold there, do some sampleing on both side of the ridge as this will give you the best indication on which side to spend more timeHow far from the ridge did you get the nuggs as they do have a bit of wear to them which indicated they have travelled a bit or have had alot of water & gravel wash over them, are there any other detector holes around ( not yours)?
cheers

Re: 5 Days for a 2g gold ring (Updated today)
Very good point Lee I should have realised their water worn forgot all about it so this may not be the source.I,ve tried sampling at times but failed miserably at this, never got gold in a pan ever apart from a few specs I think.Theres no detector holes in this area. The nuggets were within 5 meters of the ridge line.

Hi Deutran
I think alot of us sometimes don't stop long enough to ask ourselves what this piece of Gold is telling me, it might pay you to go back to 2 holes you dug the nuggs from and half fill a gold pan with the gravel in the bottom of the hole wash it just like you are panning, your not looking for specks but washing the gravel to make an assessment of it's characteristics is it water worn? does it match the general stuff on top? you may have an old river channel? just trying to prompt your thought procces, the answers you come up with will help all.
good luck, perservere with the pan it will !! pay off

Re: 5 Days for a 2g gold ring (Updated today)
Nice find Deutran
I reckon the reason the Nuggets look water worn is because of the ground passing over them, not from being tumbled in a river bed.
Looks like an area with great potential and I would be checking all the slopes,in all directions, leading away from that reef line.
If the ground deepens quickly,go the big coils (20-24 inch) and search for the bigger pieces that may start you onto a new run. Once found, you can switch back to the smaller coils to pick up the scraps.
Good luck Mate.

Re: 5 Days for a 2g gold ring (Updated today)
Got out today and managed a 1.6g about 10mtrs straight along the ridge line from the last one.It appears the gold is associated with this ridge and starting to make a bit more sense. Will post a pic of the nugget.
