yes.
as far as I know, the only difference is the 4500 battery has the addition of an amp for speaker use

HI llochris2 madtuna is right you can use the 4000 batt. on the 4500. The wife has a 4000 and I have uesd her batt. often ,But only with head phones. My Batt. died on the 4500 and it was a good back up.We also have a Lucky Lark converted to the GPX. I think they are as good or better than the minelab one ...Bob.. Just to add a little bit to this subject on the minelab batt. like I said my 4500 batt. died it was 14 months old and I did use it every day for 8 months last year and 2 this year and long days at that..Ok I had a old reeds batt. that had lion batties in it that were the same as in the 4500 .So me being me tested each cel. useing my swallow charger and found that only two were ok.. I changed the six cels and its back charging up and gives 6-8 hours ..Im not an expert on lion batt.. have read some thing that they can be dangerous .. I did leave the tags on so the soldering was quick and didnt heat the cel. to much..they come out easy if you cut the pink plastic and take the cel. out leaving the plastic behind then slip the new cel. in ..The 4000 batt. is a year older and still works fine ???..just luck of the draw..the cells are LR1865AF and cost $25 each that was last year ,the minelab batt. has 8 cells the lucky lark has 9 cells. hope this helps..The place to ask is ..SUOMAR BATTERY INDUSTRIES WA.893025444..the new cells are ..ur18650=2600 li-on 3.7volt 2.6ah sanyo 21d..

how many people are having trouble with the batterys on the 4500. I have been told they are lasting 3-4 months then only hold a charge for 5 hours not good for the price if this is true ????

I havent had a problem with mine. I detect from morning sometimes until 3 or 4 in the morning most weekend and atleast 2 etra long weekends a month and have only ever ran mine flat once when I forgot to charge it.

I hear a lot of complaints re; only a six month warrentee on the battery, but I noticed my new camera only has six months aswell. So I did some checking and found a huge variety of big brand expensive products only garentee thier batteries for a max of six also. I think it must be pretty standard with L ion

Gday

I suppose that even if the battery does fail that it would only be a matter of having the cells replaced inside the 4000 and 4500 battery box, as is done with the Reeds battery, all the other components would be ok, it would have to be cheaper than replacing the whole thing.

Like most batteries you have to take the time to look after them as well, I have two of the 4500 batteries and I use one and then the other the next day, so one is always fully charged, also you have to make sure that you charge them up fully before you store them away, and store them so they dont get knocked about during travel.

cheers

GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries Empty Re: GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries

Hi All, Today while out detecting with a group of people at Tarnagulla the amplifier in the battery shat itself. The detector still operates with the headphones but I was using an external speaker and the sound response dropped off to nothing. 5 minutes after mine blew another detectorist had exactly the same thing happen to him. This will be the second time in 6 months that this has happened to him.

Just wondering how many other people have had this problem??

If this is a common problem, then the limited warranty of 6 months just does not cut it!!
The other option is to revert back to the 4000 battery and run an external amplifier.
Cheers.

The other question is - how do you replace the amplifier? Looking at the previous comments, it is noted that the cells can be replaced, then I presume the amplifiers should be in the same situation

GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries Empty Audio Amp

Post  AuTitch Sun Nov 22, 2009 8:26 pm

I had the audio amp go in my 4500 battery when the machine was about two month old. I dropped the battery off at the retail store on the Sunday and had the battery back fixed on the Thursday. By all accounts the failure is common and the repair is a simple IC chip replace. I haven’t read the warranty statement regarding the battery warranty but I would argue that the audio amp is in fact part of the detector and covered under the detector warranty (five years as long as you attend the Minelab field day) and not part of the battery. I could accept Minelab providing a modified warranty for the battery cell but I would expect that the charging and audio circuit be covered under the control box warranty. Remember the “squeaky wheel gets the oil” so get on the phone to ML and make some noise.

GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries Empty Re: GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries

Post  Nightjar Sat Dec 12, 2009 9:15 am

To all who have experienced battery failure,
Am interested in hearing how you charge your batteries?
From the vehicle 12V or 240V?
If using your vehicle battery do you plug it in after you start the engine?
If using 240V do you charge for a set time or leave it charging over night?

My only problem has been the charging light kept flashing continuously (GPX-4500 Minelab battery). A phonecall to Reeds Prospecting and Petra advised me to connect the battery to my machine, turn it on and leave it overnight to discharge completely. The battery was then recharged and hasn't been a problem since.

Cheers

Hi All, Late reply sorry, I've been working away for a fornight, in Bendigo of all places with no detector to fill in any spare time I had GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries Icon_evil
In response to the battery failure that I experienced, I recieved my battery back from minelab with the report stating ' no apparent problem '
I tested everything out and all works fine GPX-4000/4500 - Batteries Icon_eek
I spoke with a tech on the phone and he felt there must be a fault with my speaker, but works now, so with no fault found either I am at a loss as to what the problem was....and so is the tech.
Cheers
