4000 or 4500 ???

Hi Guys!
I am thinking of upgrading to 40 or 45. There is a bit of price jump from 40 to 45.
Could someone tell me what difference is there between the two machines?
I think that 40 was a little soft-sounding and 45 came with a build-in booster, is that true?
And what of "timings" which as i am told were updated for 45?
Anyway, would be great to hear from someone who experienced both machines.

I would go for the 4000 at the moment considering the price for a 4500, theres a 4000 on ebay for $3900 compaired to $6000 + for the 4500, i have used a 4500 for 3 days before[hired] i ended up buying a 4000 for the price difference and have found i believe would be the smallest of small nuggets with a 14 inch mono which i believed was broken for a long time which is now confirmed, so now ill get a new coil maybe 18 inch mono, im happy with my choice, but its up to you and your finances and how much time you will have to use it.

Hi, It's not that they had a problem, it is the fact that the 45's use the new technology of SETA.

I wouldn't be buying a 4500 off ebay at the minute and would order one from a dealer and wait IMHO, but to avoid the wait maybe the extra $$$$ are worth it.

The wait for a new 45 is not that long now down to 4 or 5 weeks only

4000 already had SETA. or did SETA itself change? Sorry, just want to be clear on what improvements are there.

All i know is theres probarly a few more settings on the 4500, new timings etc ? and a back light who knows, i was thinking about getting any detector, didnt matter to me which one, sd 2200, gp 3500, 4000, 4500, whatever as long as your out there swinging, thats the main thing, for sure the gpx 4500 must be better than the 4000, and so it should be its newer and at the moment cost a hell of alot more, how much better is nit picking i think, most nuggets you will find with the 4500 you'll find with the 4000, really really gonna come down to the operator.

I agree that operator is the main factor.
I have a 35 at the moment and think that it's becoming harder to find gold with it. A friend upgraded from Extreme to 45 recently and been pulling out dozens of small bits in areas that we both searched well with older detectors. I am jealous .

If you have decided to upgrade then I'd humbly suggest a 4500 in preference to a 4000 if dollars permit it. The 4500 has far more options to suit differing conditions and coils, and is not that hard to learn once you become familiar with just what controls what. Alternatively, wait for a period of time (who knows) and get the latest (5000???) offering. It must be due shortly going by Minelabs past release history. Cheers.

ps You are right about the operator. An operator familiar with his machine will run rings around someone with a later machine that is unfamiliar to him. Best of luck.

RT ..... if you can afford the initial extra outlay then dont hesitate to get the 4500.
was a new chum with the extreme, took me two years to get the hang of it, then was lucky enough to find a spot that game me about ten ounces.--- a couple of more years going back with bigger and better coils, but nothing more. got the 4000, hit the good spot again with the then new smooth mode, but got northing. then came the 4500, first couple of weeks learning it - nothing. went back the next year with more experience (that is this year) got thirteen ounces, no kidding, best was 79grams at 18inches, many between 20 and 30grams at 15 to 21 inches, down to .2 grams a few inches down that were missed by all and sundry for many year, as this is a well known spot.
all the above found in three weeks of easy going, as i tend to loose the plot when i find a good size nug early in the morning, cant do anything for the rest of the day but GRIN.
the 4500 has the seta setting on 6 different modes, but the new ENHANSE mode proved the winner, as general normal is way to strong, and picks up way to many false signals to use over any area, but will go back one day and chain certain areas in that mode, i expect to get many more nuggets. coil used was a three year old NF 17x11 mono, rx gain normal at 8, in DEEP, fixed with signal reversed. only other setting diff to the normal was JPs recommendation of leaving it in DD instead of MONO on the front cap (see his video).

thanks for the opportunity to skite again, but as you can see, if you can afford the initial hip pocket hit, get the best you can afford, get to know you machine as qld sandy says, and you will murder all of the other superseeded machines, best of luck ... kev
