Are the extreme standard coils any good?
G'day all,
I have only been prospecting for about two months now and only had my first detector ( GP Extreme ) for maybe two weeks and only been out twice detecting so have limited experience. I kinda broke the bank in getting the detector so will be unable to buy any new coils for it for a while So for now iam stuck with the standard 11" and 18" DD coils.
Just wondering how effetive these coils are?
Ive had fun digging up junk and getting used to the detector but would like to figure out if these will do me for a while or if i should start penny pinching to save for a new coil straight away.
Cheers,
Shivan

The 11 is a great coil , dont under estimate it. It found my first piece, and my second. Both small pieces, a .7 and a 2 grammer. And tuned right it will easily find much smaller bits. I have bought 3 different coils since then, and only found 1 more piece.... Its still my lucky coil.....

my smallest piece with the gp extreme and the 11''dd was .05g, so they will find some really small pieces
cheers

Re: Are the extreme standard coils any good?
Hi shivan
Totally agree that the Extream DD coils are fine.
I still use my old black 11 DD from my extream on the GPX 5000 when there is too much electrical interference around for Mono coils. ( like today !)
It works as well as the new 11" DD from my GPX
If the ground mineralisation is light a bit more depth is possable with both the 11 and the 18 if you set the RX switch to "E" which converts them to a psudo mono coil . The "sensitive" soil setting will also improve the depth on the small bits .
The 18 is pretty heavy , but with the skid plate removed and a speed handle it can be swung for hours , even with my puny arms !
When my missus comes out bush she gets the 5000 and I go back to the Extream , and I do ok with it . I get more ground ground noises and hot rocks to dig than with a GPX , but in equivalent timings ( normal and Sensative ) and in low to medium minerised soil it will easily stay with my 5000 .
JPs dvd Unleashing the GP Series is worth getting hold of.
Hope my rant makes some sense

Re: Are the extreme standard coils any good?
Thanks koeh and dryblower. I did manage to get JP's Unleashing the GP Series when i got my detector and did find it very helpful have watched it 3 times and read a bit about the Extreme but both times ive been out all the great info starts running round and jumbling up in my head So i tended not to experiment as much as i wanted to.
I still have not tryed the psudo mono setting yet as i was mainly trying to get the hang of ground balencing and getting around ground noise
