Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
Gday Legless,
A few months back I got a 38 grammer then a 7 grammer about an hr apart on some ground I have flogged to death over the years.
No one ever gets all the gold and it makes me wonder how some people can complain that all the patches in places like W.A are worked out
Maybe its just that all the easy gold is gone hey

Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
Hi there,
I was out at a usual haunt of mine the other week and walked out from my car about 30 meters. I turned my detector on and waved it around for about 2 paces and had a very slight unusual signal in some very noisy mineralized ground. I played around for a minute or two trying to determine if it was a signal or ground noise, but was confused by two more identical sounds all a meter apart and equally spread out in a line. So after a bit of mental negotiating whether to dig or not, I walked away.. But something made me go back and investigate further. I decided to scrape away at the 3rd signal to the far left of the 3 not yet determined targets. As I placed the coil in to the slight depression I had scraped away, it was a now louder, though still not obvious or familiar tone. But curiosity had the better of me and I got down to around 13" and hit hard red clay. By which time the target was now dislodged and out of the hole. After a quick scrounge around with my scoop I had the lump of rusty looking trash in my hand and let out a few choice words as i rubbed off some clay and sand I noticed a bit of colour in it. Now with a bit more of my attention focussing on this lump of trash I give it a good rub on my pants to reveal a 14.71 gram nugget. I couldn't believe it as It was my first descent slug since starting out back in March. The other two targets which I dug at record speed turned out to be rubbish. Though I did spend alot of time after that thinking every deep sounding signal was another big nugget waiting to be plucked out.
regards,
Paul

Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
I bet if you dug out the 3 rubbish targets first you would have walked away from that nice nug.
I probably would have.
You must have dug the rest of the targets at lightning speed with the adrenaline rushing.

Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
My biggest single nugget was this 5. oz nugget dug at Stuart Town, N.S.W. back in the late 80's.
It was about 7 - 8 inches down, & found it with a Bounty Hunter RB10. A few other guys there at the time were pi**ed off because they had Garretts A2B's, which they thought were better than my B/hunter.
Slainte, Geronimo.

Oh Wow!
That 5 ouncer would make, and end, my life. I probably drop dead of a heart attack but at least I'd die with a smile on my face
And the other finds are magic too. One day, I'll be joining you when I find my first nugget...
cheers

Geronimo: That's not only a good story, but it's a very nice nugget as well. That's a beautiful shape with nice rounded knobby edges.

Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
Thanks Nero, however it was over 20years ago now. Found it on the upper part of the Stuart Town common.(you probably know the area) Also remember the landlord at the pub showing me a bundle of nuggets he had in the safe - all around 1 - 4 ozs. I believe that region still has promise.nero_design wrote:Geronimo: That's not only a good story, but it's a very nice nugget as well. That's a beautiful shape with nice rounded knobby edges.
Congrats.
Someone had actually scraped about 1 inch of top soil, but then moved on, probably thinking it was rubbish
So lesson learnt, never walk away until you dig it. Geronimo.

Re: Biggest Find By Forum Member?
one nice stinking hot summer day in W.A. in 1996, the temperature was 43 degrees and I had nothing better to do than
going back to 'my' salt lake, that I have been working for about 3 months on and off, discovering patches here and there.
The gold was coming regularly, and to date the biggest piece I've found was 23grams, but I could average an ounce a day
on most days. So here I had another 'trash' signal under the 11"DD coil of my SD2000. After locating and digging up the
target, I saw a little yellow tip sticking out of a mud ball the size of a fist and when I tried to pull that slug out of the mud to
no avail, only then I realized that this was in fact the tip of a much bigger nugget covered with mud. This would have been
one of the most memorable moments in my life. The cleaned up nugget weighed in at 296g or 9,5oz and I named it the
turtle nugget as it looked like one in prehistoric times....

Thanks for the feedback Bedrock.Found in the heart of the Golden Triangle 2 inches down on the side bank of a clay mullock heap "September 11th 2011" a date not easily forgotten.Pot luck yes,but no amount of planning could ever make up for swinging time.Even when the chips seem down you've just got to believe that its there.
Cheers kon61.
