TURBO DIESEL INJECTOR PROBLEM
I had an injector replaced under warranty in my prado turbo diesel one year from purchase. I am now 2 months from the end of warranty and it looks like another injector needs replacing. I am very nervous about the possible need to replace the next two out of warranty. I am told by the dealer that they don't know what caused the problem with the first injector. In theory it was sent back to japan to determine the cause. Apparently they don't know what is causing the problem. And they do know there is a problem. Have other prado turbo diesel owners had injector problems, and what was the outcome? I know that some will want to talk about "dirty fuel" problems with turbo diesels ( I am as careful as you can be, with where I buy fuel) - but why are turbo diesels still being sold, if the constant replacing of recommended filters doesn't work? This is an injecteor problem, not a fuel problem.

Re: TURBO DIESEL INJECTOR PROBLEM
Talk to an injector pump specialist, not a dealership.
Could be a number of things causing the injectors to fail, perhaps not the fault of the injectors or the fuel.?

I would assume your engine has developed a miss? Could well be valve clearance! How many K's she done.

tis running rough - gradually getting worse - done 53000 kms - the computer testing says it's a dodgey injector

injector issue
Mate, I just changed all 4 injectors in my prado. It turns out it's a problem from factory. The only way to fix it is to change them. I bought my injectors from Dalby, Qld about $730 each instead of $1000 from Toyota.

Re: TURBO DIESEL INJECTOR PROBLEM
My prado is a 2007 model, the first of the new common rail motor. Iv'e done 100 000ks
The rattley injectors started about 70 000ks. I know the inhectors aren't cheap, but it's the best thing iv'e done. Good luck.

Re: TURBO DIESEL INJECTOR PROBLEM
Dito to Curlys comment well know issuse with 120 series with the D4D motor(150 series not sure about), have a look on pradopoint theres alot of info there about this.
Many have failed and Toyota tend to blame bad fuel etc etc.
Hit up Toyota for a complete replacement set and hope for the best if you persist you should have them done for free, make sure you have a record of the date you informed (or imformed) of the problem, most car mobs tend to drag their feet close to warrenty ending.
Regards
John
PS you may need to quote info from pradopoint to back up your claims, so id suggest you join that forum it is one of the better ones i have seen for while.

Re: TURBO DIESEL INJECTOR PROBLEM
A friend in Albury had his fifth set of replacement injectors fitted to his V8 diesel 'Cruiser tray at 140,000kms recently.
He's not looking forward to the end of the (extended) warranty ....

re: turbo diesel probs
to go through a 5th set of injectors is unheard off to me..May be dodgy fuel at the bowser-- have u had a sample of the fuel tested by a lab?
Another comment prior was he was particular were he filled up--I use around $15,000 worth of fuel at BP every month both diesel and petrol and we have had problems with the fuel on odd occasions..the fuel company will not tell u theres a problem until u complain on the day u fill up. BP picked up the repair bill.
Toyota diesel fuel filters are not reliable especially when water is a contaminant--I have installed cav pre filters just in case--so far fuel has been good.
Shell servo 27ks away had water in fuel and didnt tell anyone till it was too late....they picked up the repair bills.
I completely drain my low diesel tanks every 12 months as a pre caution. Change fuel filter every 30K ks.
Rain is a real threat to contamination and fuel trucks putting wrong fuel in underground tanks -- yes **** happens.
Hope u can take something away from this.

That common rail stuff must sure be high tech and expensive. Just done the injectors on my old tech '99 patrol TD42 ...6 reco injectors 300 bucks all up and 100 bucks for new Bosch glow plugs. Used Fleabay and no issues. My previous injectors hadnt been touched in 250,000 ks and were still in good nick. ARB quoted me $1800-$1900 which would explain their high overheads and labour costs.
Only use Caltex Delo400 at 6000k intervals and only use Caltex diesel. No other issues apart from one set of belts changed and a fresh clutch plate. Pretty lucky so far I guess.
