2008-2011 Colorado Diesel 4x4
Ok you lot...who has one?....or who has owned one?. ...your thoughts.?
Thinking of one myself.
Not interested in hearing about other brands.

Re ute
I had a 2010 dmax (same ute) for 2 years ,it towed my very heavy 17 ft glass boat well ,where some Utes have done it hard.it did get into the fuel a bit towing ,even pulling the 395 ally.they are quite long in the wheelbase and tend to under steer a bit.especially if you hit a bump mid corner it wallowed, mine was starting to chop out the inside of the front tyres when I traded it .40,000k ,quite comfortable to drive ,mine was a tray body single cab.fella I work with has a 2010 Colorado and he just towed a camper van to Albany and back and said it went great.he recently replaced his tailgate latch $350 just for the black plain one and $1500 for a major service so check spare parts price, might just be poysers in bendigo are steep.i never had a issue with mine except had it back 3 times for a pain in the backside squeak in the drivers seat.like most Utes its size it wasn't real brave down low(pulling boats out up riverbanks etc).havent heard much bad about them to be honest.the Isuzu motor seems a decent workhorse, mates a fuel injection mechanic and he said not to run cheap crap in common rail motors ,he put a pre filter unit, that he recommended on the bt50,(stanadyne30 micron).cant think of anything terrible to be honest.only sold it cos the wife wanted a extra cab for shopping etc and we test drove the bt50 and it would pull the dmax up the road backwards .

Thx for the report...much appreciated.
As for the bt50...was also considering one myself, but a mate has one and he is not pleased with the fuel economy, so will be down sizing it to something else.?

Re ute
I've got the free style cab with the 3.2 five cylinder,it isn't 4wd but has the height of a 4wd,it only uses about 1 litre per 100 k exrtra towing the boat and does it easy .i use a old suzuki for going bush as all the tracks here are getting overgrown.the bt is every bit as good as the dmax on a trip as well.so can't really answer why your mates is heavy on fuel, depends what he's doing or if it's the previous model ,mate said he hasn't seen much drama with either .mainly with cockies Utes pulling fuel out of ordinary bowsers etc.cheers

Narrawa,
I realise you're not interested in other brands, but my 2011 Dmax (almost identical) has been faultless for 110k kms. Very economical, sufficient power, easy to service at home, designed for longevity rather than performance, timing chain rather than belt. The Collies/Dmaxes have good reputations for reliability,
Phil

I'll second that, I have a 2011 D-Max, and it has been great over the 120,000 K's I've run up since then.
Service guys say that the D-Max's very rarely come in for warranty repairs, unlike the Ford Rangers they also sell, which are a lot more varied.
I had the previous model Colorado, but am very happy with the D-Max in comparison, even though they are similar. Next time I'd go for a tray rather than a tub, though.
When the lease runs out in April, I'll be paying the residual and keeping it.

My mates is the 4x4 model...and he was pulling a camper trailer across the nullabor and back. Unless you have free wheeling hubs...your going to be pushing more resistance. Which is the first thing i'll be doing on my next 4x4 if its not got free wheeling hubs. 2x4s dont have that problem...and you would expect they get better mileage.cougarcans wrote:I've got the free style cab with the 3.2 five cylinder,it isn't 4wd but has the height of a 4wd,it only uses about 1 litre per 100 k exrtra towing the boat and does it easy .i use a old suzuki for going bush as all the tracks here are getting overgrown.the bt is every bit as good as the dmax on a trip as well.so can't really answer why your mates is heavy on fuel, depends what he's doing or if it's the previous model ,mate said he hasn't seen much drama with either .mainly with cockies Utes pulling fuel out of ordinary bowsers etc.cheers

Re ute
All the best with the new wheels,I like the space cab idea, still get a full size tray and you can lock goodies in the ute instead of worrying bout some parasite stealing it.

Re: 2008-2011 Colorado Diesel 4x4
I cant get over how it drives...its like new...no rattles, vibrations or that old Rodeo engine rattle, that when turning up at Maccas id have to turn it off so the chick could hear my order...
Yep, after having one spaccab, the idea of taking a power-nap without having to leave the cab is just ants pants... having that little extra room behind your seat to fold it back...works for me. Plus i like to fill that cavity with all the BS one tends to toss in there over time like...spare shirt, pants, undies, socks, hat, towel, thongs, jacket toiletries, can of Lynx, sweater, beanie, tools, small trolly jack, job adjuster, 1.25L of old coke in case i need the bottle for something, why not that long ago we found a 3L bottle of milk that somehow escaped our shopping bags and hid under the passenger seat till it burst. Judging by the smell and texture when it finally let go....i figure it was there about a month. I sh!t you not...iv never smelt something that rank in my 47yrs on this earth....iv never dry reached so hard in my life either...and iv fathered 4 kids and their sh!tty nappies.
The power and acceleration from this thing is neck snapping for a diesel. The size of the cab compared to the old girl is also much larger, and at 6foot 1"..i had no adjustment left on the old girl..the new one gives me plenty more to play with, and the spaccab section is also much bigger due to the layout. (no rear seats at this stage....i'll get them ron.)
The old girl even with the 2-1/2"exhaust sounded like a Harvard crop duster....yet could never follow up with the power to match.
Still, the old girl served me well over the years and it'll be a sad moment when i sell her.
The new one im thinking already has a 2-1/2" zorst, so probably no need to upgrade it...and im kinda happy just listening to those large off road tyres humming along compared to the drone of the crop duster. I'll fit a snorkel soon enough as i have a habit of trying to wash cars by submerging them...completely.
Iv stripped all the goodies from the old girl, and will refit them to the new one in time...UHF, Light-Bar, Dual Batt, ect ect. Will add a new electric brake controller as well...the old one was a pig.
Tyres are a little on the large side of things with them coming in at ...265/75R16... Bridgestone dueler MT/674
Pic...https://www.bridgestonetyres.com.au/dueler-mt-d674 wrapped around black sunraysia wheels. When their warn out, i'll shoe it with something a little more casual me thinks.
The stock stereo has to go....the buttons are arse about compared to the Kenwood in the old girl.
