Hi all,
how many of you have nuggets you would like to make Jewellery out of them, the first thing required is a suitable clasp it must be solid gold of some sort in other words it can be of nugget gold or one of the grades of gold 18 14 9k it can not be gold plated and gold solder and flux must be used. The various grades can be made by adding but not restricted to copper and silver. Scrap gold can be recycled for this purpose EG rings chains braclets far more productive and more value than selling it to the gold buyers. You can make your own fittings by the lost wax casting method just the same as you can make matching nuggets for ear rings if required. As a nugget is only about at best 22k, pure gold is 24K 99.9% pure and is very soft and so is a nugget so if a bail is made to hang the nugget on to put a chain through then a harder gold is needed to stand a bit of wear as you would also need to buy a chain possibly 14K or 9k. All gold Jewellery has or should have a hallmark stamped on it and should be visible under magnification 18K is 750 14K is 583 and 9K is 375 to give an example. To give an example of what it can cost I took A nice 4 carat topaz to Jeweler and asked could he make me as setting and what would it cost if i supplied the gold. for a setting weighing 2 grams remember I was supplying the gold was $375 I made my own setting at our club with a wax pattern from our pattern book both the setting and topaz all up cost me $80.
Will be glad to field questions and supply more advice about this subject
regards
