nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
hey guys,
im looking at getting a nfa 14x9 or 14x7, just wondering if people have used either or both and what they thought of them?
ive only a 6x8 sadie at the moment, so looking for something that will give me a bit more coverage, depth and still pick up the crumbs.
thanks

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
G`day goldmuss78 , the coils you have mentioned are both top contenders ... i personally prefer the 14x7 as it is a solid coil & since most of the detecting i do is in the triangle it is great for scrubbing along the ground & jamming it into small areas & under the low lying scrub. The 14x9 being a lightweight coil ( open spokes ) tends to get hooked up on sticks , rocks etc .. also a bit harder to scrub if the ground is uneven or rocky.
I have found with the 14x7 that it is a strong robust sensitive coil finding small bits on the surface & also capable of picking up larger ones at reasonable depth ... i have dug out a 1.8 grammer just short of 13" deep at Maryborough with this coil - obviously the type of detector & settings also have alot to do with it.
The 2 main coils i use around the triangle are the 14x7 NFA & the 17x11 NF solid ... hope this info helps..

Thanks very much for your time gully hunter,
i run a 4500 , so should have put that in sorry and i detect in the triangle too. good to hear from someone with sucessful experience with one, sounds like 14x7 is the go. a lot of people seem to use them so cant go too wrong.
cheers

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
I also run a 4500 & coupled to the 14x7 NFA is quite a lethal combination ... I think you will be happy with this coil - dont forget ... correct settings & ground balancing is the key bro !
You can PM me if you need any advice on the above if you dont already know .... Goodluck with it & hope to bump heads in the bush one day ...

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
Just a personal view,
but these two are a different class of coils.
The 14x7 is a biggish SMALL coil. It is there to compete with the 8 or 10" round mono in terms of performance. It provides more ground coverage and will get into tighter corners but it will have it's disadvantages in terms of performance (due to the shape as well)
The 14x9 is a smallish MEDIUM coil. It is there to compete with the 11-12" round Mono. Again, its shape will give you some advantages, but also will bring some disadvantages.
So unless your plan is to detect flyshit in overgrown ground, i would go with the 14x9 as a default coil. But what do i know? I don't own any NFA coils

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
G'day Goldmuss78.
I dont think I could ad much more than whats already been said. Both coils will pick up a 0.1gm nugget at between 1 to 3 inches depth, with the 14x7 having a slight edge in sensitivity over the 14x9.Also the 14x7 being a solid filled coil can be shoved into just about any crack, crevice shrub or swung over any loose or permanent plant, shrub, tree root, rocky crevice etc without getting caught up in there.
Rtanweb, after seriously reading your post I was in tears reading that last sentence of yours.
Cheers guys kon61.

Hi Kon61!
i did try the coils in question.
Just don't recon they are any better than the 11 inch commander mono.
But yeah, everything before the last sentance in my first post was serious.
Absence of facts or experience has never stopped me from voicing opinions

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
Take the first of the 14x7 models and rip the heavy duty black skid plate off it, and whack it on the latest ADV model and you have a winner. It combos well with both 4000 & 4500.
My other half is on her 3rd 14x7 ADV skid plate, im thinking of gluing all the stuffed ones together, and even than they wont add up to the old black job!!
I had a 14x9 NF but sold it a few days latter and replaced it with NF 17x11, first of the plastic jobies, no regrets. And im still using the 11" mono that came out in the 3000 era. I dread the day it ever lets the ghost out.

Re: nf advantage 14x7 vs 14x9
cheers guys, thanks for your thoughts.
yeh i think 14x7 for sure, ill pick one up today and give it go over weekend. I was always thinkin of getting a 17x11 too in a few months, so
should have most things covered with both of these. hopefully i dont end up with as many coils as ive fishing rods!
I do bash through a lot of bush bashin so solid coil is preferance and after small stuff at this stage,
cheers
