Welcome to the forum shangers, I also have a Xt 705 and have also found my fair share of lead etc. Have found 1 little "nugget?" .23gr and after doing much research and a bit of field work my best advise to you is to use the detector in the ground that it is most capable in, ie: look for the more shallow ground and practice practice practice.
I have learn't that a .22 cal shell will usually read between 10 and 12 on the TID but having said that I run in all metal mode and only hit the coin/relic button out of curiosity and 9 times out of 10 dig it anyway. I also use the full range of tones and hunt by ear so to speak.
Read the manual and follow what it says about the various settings and make it second nature to perform these things on startup.
I have found the 705 a great machine to learn about swing technique, ground balance etc, and its not heavy or cumbersome to lug around and for me that makes the whole experience more enjoyable at this stage.
The web is a great place to learn about lots of things and this forum is my main "go to" source of information, that coupled with the generosity and knowledge of its members rates among the best I have found too I love you

Enjoy the tector and the best of luck Very Happy

Hi shangers,

you may find this interesting ...

http://www.minelab.com/aus/members/welcome-members

You'll have to sign up as a minelab member (free) and you'll be able to download "Understanding your Xterra". It makes for an interesting read, in my opinion. I looked at buying one for quite a while and researched them to bits. There is alot of info out there, just keep reading and trying new things.
