Gpx 4500-5000 Battery hours ?
Hi,
im using a Gpx 5000 had it just over 4 month now and my Battery seems to be discharging quickly!
Minelab say i should get upto 12 hours from my battery but i actuly on get just over 5 hour from it.
is this normal??
i run a Gain of 15-17 and stablizer at 13-15 if possible...could this cause battery to discharge so quick?
i have only clocked up 100 max on battey and charge each day after use Also while i have lunch.
people thought appreciated
Thanks

I would assume that the 5000 battery and the 4500 battery are the same, if you are only getting 5 hours from it then there is something wrong with it, it should romp in 10 hours

Battery
Gidday M8
If you can do it after you charge your battery check the amount of charge the unit really has by using a multimeter and then check again after a day's detecting with the multimeter this should give you an accurate voltage reading if you find a problem contact Minelab I have found them very helpful in my dealings with them
Cheers Dave

Running 11in mono standard
Thx ,
yes im just using 11 inch mono that came with uniit..
i find when battery hits 7.8 the detector becomes very erratic as well, and never had owned a good detector before im not sure if thats normal.

I always thought the coil got a set amount to run off from the detector, no matter what brand/size.fencejumper wrote: the coiltek pro coils use 17% more power than a standed coil of same size not sure about nuggetfinders.
Davsgold, do you still have those test results we did some years back, and if so, did we test a Pro coil??
Re: Gpx 4500-5000 Battery hours ?
G'day Narrawa
Those test results would be somewhere here, it was interesting, we tested a Coiltek 14" DD Pro round coil on a GPextreme (mine) at the time and your GP3000.
Result was from memory because I carn't find the paper ATM, just running on either machine 0.8amps draw and just about 0.82amps when a target was pased over the coil, and about 1.1amps on start up for about a second or less.
We also tested a large mono 20" nfsl old fiberglass one and it used about the same amount of power, and then a 10"x5" Colitek DD and there was no real difference thet we could measure on the multimeter.
So we came to the conclusion that the supplied 12ah battery should last all day and then some, 12/0.8=15 hours run time.
The GPX model seems to use about the same amount of power unless you are in sharp timing.
The GPX lithium Ion battery is a 9.2ah and so should last 9.2/0.8=11.5 hours run time.
If you are using the GPX in sharp timing then you could expect to get about 20% less time as it is putting an extra 20% more power to the coil.
cheers dave

Cheers Dave, was a bit of a shock from memory when doing those tests, one would have expected big draws on the big DD & monos, but not so.

Hi Mate
Had a similar problem [short run time] with my 5000 battery, in the end it would not take a full charge.
ML replaced the unit; suggest you send it back ASAP.

Do you have your backlight on? try turning it off and see how you go then.

Re: Gpx 4500-5000 Battery hours ?
It was when we were stuffing about with home made lightweight batteries and regulators.
While we had the battery apart we just placed a digital amp-meter in series with the battery and monitored the current at start up, and when waving a large bit of metal over the coils.
It was said that these coils would drain the battery a little quicker, thats why we thought we would test them.
Nothing concrete in our tests, just a couple of yobo's myth busting i guess.
