5000 Battery/ Amp Empty 5000 Battery/ Amp

Post  dolandave Tue Jun 14, 2011 11:31 am

Hi,
I havent posted on this board before, as I am a yank, from Las Vegas, Nevada, and Arizona area. I own a Minelab GPX 5000 and use it all the time in my area. Lately I have noticed the sound not amplifying as good, and when I wiggle the headphones in the headphone jack, the sound will go loud then low. I changed out the headphones with new ones, and it still does the same. My question is has anyone experienced this also? IF so what did you do? Return it to Minelab for repair, or open it up and fix it? Does anyone know the problem, is it bad solder connection, or bad headphone jack connector? Thanks for any help...
Dave

Dave it sounds like it could just be an intermittent fault with the board. Best bet is to get it back to Minelab for repair, the inbuilt booster should not be triggered by headphones at all under any circumstances. It might pay to attach a correctly wired speaker just to confirm it is the inbuilt booster that is playing up. Volume settings for headphones should be Volume Limit 12, Target Volume 8; for Speaker use, Volume Limit 10, Target Volume 12.

Hope this helps,
