Rubber for a sluice?
Hey ive just made my first river sluice box but there is one last thing I need, I can't seem to find and ribbed rubber matting to glue onto the loading part of the sluice, ive been to hardware, boating and carpet shops.
Any ideas on where I might be able to pick some up? Im in the Hawksburry, western Sydney.
Heading out on the weekend to give it a go, will post some action shots when I get back.
Cheers.

Re: Rubber for a sluice?
clark rubber sells some. but it's only about 2mm high. does work, but only on the real small stuff and a slowish water speed.
there are places on ebay that sell it, but you pay through the roof. saying that. it's the good stuff.
if you do find someone locally, let me know as i would like some too

Re: Rubber for a sluice?
Ive just used rubber mats from bunnings before and cut em up to fit, but personally I threw rubber out years before and just use carpet from bunnings down the entire riffle length..its all ya need.Just when you are finished wash your carpet out in a 20 litre bucket by lifting it up and down in the water a few times..never missed any gold doing this.
Pppl get far too carried away selecting rubber types when all ya need is good carpet..marine grade.

Re: Rubber for a sluice?
yep a cheap rubber door mat from bunnings is the go or even a car mat from supercheap auto, since they are designed for taking dirt of ya feet and trapping it they also work good for showing up and catching some gold..in my ah dredges I used rubber mat out of a gold crusher lining the pink stuff with glue..if you can find a mob who build such equipment they sometimes will give you a bit for free eh..
