To sluice or not to sluice a boddington river?
They say the fine gold at boddington is huge. But on tengraph and state forrest etc etc... you cannot get near it.
Is it worth wasting ones time trying your hand at sluicing for fine gold?
What do eastern staters think as you are the experts in sluicing.

It depends.
You say
"But on tengraph and state forrest etc etc... you cannot get near it."
Sound like if your not an eastern stater then your not allowed to take the gold from there
Lucky your rules don't apply to us

Re: To sluice or not to sluice a boddington river?
Coming from Vic to WA the firts thing I did was prospect areas that looked like washways and picked up my nuggets that way, I reckon I always wanted to go back there when there was water and run something in WA creeks/floodways cos I reckon theres a fair chance there might be a bit there.

Lets not get into the adelaide grand prix talk.
but i would definetely team up with some experienced golden triangle sluicers in a legit place near boddington. I will do the tengraph work.

I just couldn't resist it stoppsy.
Sorry Birdman.
Actually, I reckon you would have a fair bit of fun sluicing. Not sure how lucky you will be on the amount of gold you will get, but the "fun factor" would definitely be huge.
I have panned a few specks from the creeks and had some great fun. It's not the quantity of gold you get, but the quality of fun you have in getting it.
Cheers, Fishberley.

I know the rivers their very well, i do allot of fly fishing for trout over shallow rapids plus marron fishing - with licence of course. Just the idea of sluicing is not like walking k's over desert for nuggets.
does shallow rapid gravel trout near a fine boddington gold mine worth wasting time sluicing over summer.
I think sluice over summer, metal detect in winter wa

Re: To sluice or not to sluice a boddington river?
the best thing is about sulicing this year is there's heaps off water around and more to come. a friend has a realy big set up at his farm, he hasn't worked it for 10 years couse off no water. this year will start again. i'm going out there in a few weeks hopping to see it run again. i'm hopping that anther mate can find his dads old sluice that he made so when it's to hold i can just run that.

Hi Birdman
with out knowing the creeks over there, I would still say have a bash. just make up a box and go for it, have a good look at the sand banks on the bends, and any spots where gold could be traped ie behind rock, logs, bedrock in the bottom of the creek.and have fun
Allan in vic
I would love to come and help but family comes first

I live not far from there ,Dont know much about it but was thinking the same thing, If ya need an extra pair of hands i'd be glad to help and mabe pick up a few tips while im there!
I was also under the impression there that the gold is very isolated and the mine expantion has taken up all the alluvial ground could be wrong though.

Re: To sluice or not to sluice a boddington river?
Gday
Not being a sluicer myself I cant tell you about the legal aspects of sluicing in WA but I have heard that it is illegal in some places around Australia so I would definately do the homework and make sure of your rights and obligations before attempting it anywhere.
But I think I would be more inclined to do some groundwork by way of panning in areas that you are allowed to go in to as it is the least obvious and damaging process, also if you are lucky enough to get some colour then you might want to do some loaming to see if you can locate its source.
Sluicing has not really been a big thing here for the obvious reason of the lack of water in our goldfields, but down south there are plenty of areas and also areas as suggested closer to Perth like north Dandalup and along the Darling Scarp, and at the back of Pinjarra etc, I have been in a lot of these areas and some of them look as though they should produce pannable gold, or be worth sluicing if you can get access and permission, as most of the areas are privately owned I think you may find it difficult.
Good luck with it and I would be interested in hearing how you go with it.
cheers
