Gold in the strangest places
I built my kids a sandpit and got sand from the local nursery. A couple of days later one of my sons who had been to Sovereign Hill and panned for gold found a nice .7 grammer in the sand. This was about thirteen years ago. He stills hangs it on me if I come home without finding anything from a prospecting outing.

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
Found a bit on the floor of our van after friends had visited for coffee. One of them must have had a half grammer stuck in the mud on his boot. My wife also found a gram bit in the washing machine at Leonora caravan park. Easy gold!

GOLD IN THE STRANGEST AREA.
Well it may not be a strange area to people finding gold there,but......clermont,qld,an area origionally dozed, scraped later, scraped and detected again, chained, detected,no way ,floged to death for 20 years of detecting,me and she for a laugh, out with the 45 and the 40,,,,,,30 minutes later,in my hand,21.5 grames from down 10 inches in the middle of the thrashed to death area.it be where it be (or it be missed).yep strange. john.

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
G'day gents.
Id have to believe that gold,is not only where you find it,but to some extent it exists and can be found in tiny microscopic amounts,in just about everything. Now here's a story that's probably going to be hard to swallow, but here goes. One sunny afternoon whilst barbecuing away and drowning our sorrows on bourbon & coke on my brother in-laws back patio, looking into the black ceramic cup i was drinking from,i was surprised to see sitting there on the bottom,a tiny (0.001)granule of what seemed to be gold.I carefully put some water in the mug, stirred the water with a spoon to see if it would rise and twirl with the momentum, but it only shifted from where i first saw it,to the bottom edge of the mug.I then carefully drained the water out, took the cup into the sunlight and with a pair of fine nosed tweezers and a magnifying glass, started to move the tiny gold speck backwards and forwards. Conclusion,it was gold alright, for it also passed the magnet test. Now,i just cant help wondering, how much more, fine micro specs of gold, I must-of downed and s**ted out,in the past, without ever being aware of it?
Cheers kon61.

Some years ago, SWMBO spec'ed a nugget in the sandy dirt adjacent to the footpath outside the Laverton Supermarket.
Ah,........ in the WA golden Triangle... Lenora, Laverton, Lennister (L3) the streets, sorry footpaths are paved with gold.

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
Gday
This didnt happen to me but to a mate of mine, back in the eighties he did a trip with some mates up to Nullagine and a few other places for a week or two, anyway he didnt find a thing and returned home empty handed, not one piece to take home and show the wife.
Then a few years ago he took his wife to the doctors and decided that he would stand out front and watch the wildlife, while standing there he happened to look down and couldnt believe his eyes when he saw a small shiny nugget just laying there on the footpath, on picking it up he saw that it had a small bail on it and was about 2.5 grams, obviously someones chain had broken and it had been lost.
Anyway when his wife came out of the doctors he handed it to her and said, heres that nugget that I said I would get for you, on looking at it and then back at him she says, you spent all that money on gear, beer and fuel and come back with nothing, yet you stand out here out front of the doctors in the middle of town and pick one up off the footpath ?, that would be right, she obviously was still annoyed at him after all the time, they never forget do they
cheers

Speciman I much prefer a PURE BLONDE NAKED
I am refering to the low carb beer(just in case the missus is looking), good for the six pack.

Not quite true...The best Vic beer I've had would be 'Whale ale' but we don't share the good stuff and rarely talk of it.....

Its kinda like an exchange program, you give us VB BEER &
we give victorians some nuggets in exchange when yous come over here..
Course, if yaz made a better brew the exchange rate would be at least 0.3 grammy bit
for a can instead of 0.1 per slab.
You blokes better get a hurry on, the Q'landers are already startin to rock up over here and
they have 4xxxx and BUNDY rum
hahaha

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
At Tarnagulla caravan park(now closed) i was told by a previous owner that none of us visitors were any good at prospecting as someone had hidden gold in the toilet block and nobody had been able to find it.It only took me a couple of minutes to find it glued to the frame behind the toilet door.Small bit probably.2.I put the gold into 9% hf and it wouldn't shift the resin glue. The owner joan,( i think) had also dropped someones first piece of gold through the slits in the office verandah and due to the amount of nails on the ground its still there. Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
I swung my detector over a mate joking that I was looking for the bolts that held him together...I got a good signal from his gut area...he was shocked cause he had lost a gold cap off his tooth a few weeks earlier..(I thought it was just a bullet from a jealous husband) ; he got himself x-rayed and it was his gold cap.
He borrowed a detector and for the next week was scanning his dumps trying to reclaim that gold cap but to no avail...far as I know it is still trapped in the sump of his stomach.
Strangest place I ever got my hands on gold was in the Araluen valley years ago...I was fishing in the Deua river 20 miles upstream upstream from Moruya and while watching a big catfish I noticed a bit of pottery poking up out of the riverbed. After jumping in and retrieving it and finding it was an old Bendigo Pottery oil jar, I was washing the sand out of it and heard a rattle, a little nuggett about the size of a jelly bean eventually came out of it!

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
was out in the bush for a swing one morning, no such luck for the first couple of hours, i decied to go have a quick coffee turned my machine off started walking along a road to go back to the car, somethinng caugt my eye on the ground and bugger me dead looked down and there it was halfa gram nugget just sitting there, so as ya do ditch the coffee turn the machinne on and started detecing picked up about 3 more peices on the road about 2 to 3 cm down..
one more for yas, Hit a target this day started digging and what do ya know i see a lead shot roll out after scraping picked it up and comfired it was a lead shot anyway just about to fill in the hole, ran my detecter over the scraping and there still was a target, scarped about inch more off and moved it ended up being a .86 nugget sitting in the same hole as a lead shot..

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
Found a 0.5g in a termite nest (unused). It was right in the centre and the nest was black like tar, when I broke it open the nugget was perfectly shiny with bits of the black stuck to it almost like plastic.

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
When I was dredging one summer in the Mother Lode
I used a protruding hummock of bedrock to step into the river each morning as I made my way out to the dredge.
At the end of the summer I was floating the dredge to shore with the engine still running.
I was about to pull it out of the river and pack it on the trailer.
As an afterthought I ran the nozzle over the top of the bedrock step
and there, nestled in the bedrock on the very top, was a quarter oz. nugget,
the biggest piece I found all summer.
That was 32 years ago and I still have the nugget.

Re: Gold in the strangest of places!!!!
A few years back we were working a run of nuggets down a hill from some reef mines. The whole area was covered with Meat Ant nests and during the summer you had to stay on the move, or they would attack you even if you werent within KOO-WEE of their nest.
Well we found a nice run of species and clean nuggets but there was one big nest right on the line,so it never got a look in.
A friend of a friend returned to this little run of gold in the winter, when the Ants are dormant, and smack bang on top of the nest sat a beautiful 9 grm specie
