Custom Slim Line Battery
I custom made a slim line 10,000mA Lithium Ion rechargeable battery for my 5000, it fits right into the sleeve on the side of the detector. Also the battery lasts a little longer than the stock battery.

Hi Hotrocks,
I purchased this battery from here: http://lightake.com/detail.do/sku.7.4V_10000mAh_12C_Lipo_Battery_for_RC_Boat-31804
The place is in Hong Kong, so dont pay other than paypal , or credit card. It took about 3 weeks to get it. The battery is 7.4 volts at 10000 mah, so it lasts longer than the stock minelab battery. I have another pic of my setup under the gpx 5000 & 4800 forum. I soldered my own connectors on it using small xt60 battery connectors. I wired it to a small splitter box I built. Here is another pic, if interested in more info, pm me.

G'day Dave
Thats a neat setup you have come up with m8, what do you use for charging the battery, where did you get a charger for it, and how much was it.
cheers dave

Re: DIY battery pack???
Just finished making one tonight as a backup for upcoming trip.
Using 2S 4000mAh Lipo from model plane.
It's very thin and slips between the control box and the control box cover.
No amp at this stage tho. So the backup system will be using headphones.
It's a nice change, not having to wear a harness !

Hi Dave,
Thanks... you can use any model car/ RC charger for lithium ion 7.4 VDC charger, tons on ebay, of coarse the more charging amps, the faster it will charge, I have a 1.5 amp peak charger. I think I paid $25 US dollars for it. I built the whole setup for around $280 US dollars.
Also like Chookfoot says you can get even smaller slimmer lighter batterys to use, such as what he used the 4000 mah battery's. Almost any 7.4 mah RC LIPO battery will work. Pick your amperage for the amount of time you use the detector in the field without a charge. You will need an sound amplifier, even with headphones, you can barely hear the detector if you dont have one.

Re: DIY battery pack???
G'day Dave
Thanks for the extra info m8.
I have in the past made up 12v battery packs for the older GP model detectors with a regulator to bring the volts down to the required level.
Now with the GPX machines I have only used the supplied Minelab battery, but use an external booster and twin speaker system.
cheers dave

Re: DIY battery pack???
This is my battery setup completely wireless, the little unit on the left goes on my harness and you plug in your speaker or headphones, also has an amp in it. On the side of the detector as you can see is the battery that plugs into the detector and thats all. Lasts a minimum of 10 hours and all that is connected to the detector is your hand and bungy, no wires or need to take off headphones.
No delays, isn't bluetooth but dedicated 2.4Ghz wireless. Works up to 50 meters from receiver... Get you kid to detect an area why you sit in the shade with the receiver and shout out when to stop and dig..
