Nice going there Kon. I know it's out there but I think it keeps moving away from me lately. Everyone says how the Whipstick is completely thrashed but I keep finding lots of shotty pellets and other rubbish down deep, so there still has to be gold mixed in with it.

Re: The pickings are slim
Great score Kon, yep very much the same point I was trying to make, need to be a seasoned prospector these days, it really does equate to hours spent on the ground, good luck squeezing a few more hunts In before the heat turns.

Re: The pickings are slim
G'day ladies/gents
Even though the times are tough out there & the pickings in way of colour maybe slim & small, the gold ain't going to come to us, but to the ones who are prepared to put in the ground time.
Next to diving, fishing & hunting, prospecting for gold out bush, has to be right up there with the best of them.
A few tiny bits of gold found over 3 separate 3hr stints.
Cheers Kon

Nice going kon, that's a good tally for these days.
With the high price of gold; 4.38 is great beer money.
You could even go boutique now

Re: The pickings are slim
A 3 hr detect a couple of days back around Castlemaine/Campbells Creek & apart from the odd lead pellet & junk targets, finally netted me what seems to be a miniaturized version of Aladdin's Lamp for colour.
Can't complain though, for it were a beautiful day for a detect before any oncoming rain sets in.

The weather has been fantastic for an arvo's bush stroll Kon.
A bit of colour is always an added bonus.
I've got most of the odd jobs done b4 the rain hit's, then it's sitting at the window with the dog's looking forlorn

Re: The pickings are slim
G'day all
It were a nice afternoon up here in Bendigo so given the opportunity, I thought why not go out for a swing of the coil?
Up away from the main gully, working the flats, I happened to stumble upon a one off 3+ gram found in the first 5 minutes of switching the detector on. 2 more hrs detecting around the initial find yielded me nothing more (less 2 bits of lead & a boot tack).
I suppose such is the nature of gold finds, but one still has to be out there swinging a coil & not dreaming about what might or might not be out there. The most important thing is being out there having a go, having fun & if all else fails, don't worry, be happy.
Cheers Kon

Re: The pickings are slim
Thanks Axtyr. It caught me by surprise for it gave off a fairly loud signal, meaning close to the surface. Taking an inch or so off the surface (leaflitter/small twigs) & digging down into clay another 2 or so inches down, out it popped. I thought I were on a good thing being found on a flat & all, but to no further avail. Such is detecting for gold I guess.

Re: The pickings are slim
Good to see that I am not the only one to find a loner and spend hours looking for its mates. I sometimes think has someone else found the gold and missed this one or one spot where i found three on virgin ground I got told a guy used to take people on a paid detecting tour in the 1980's. Made me think were they planted and missed by the prospecting operators? Only talking 1/2 grammers but three in a line and only 2 inches deep.

Re: The pickings are slim
Weird indeed moredeep, but it happens. One loner & then nothing more.
No you're not the only one jump. Single finds happen & on more than one occasion, to more than one detectorist, but even though times are tough & getting tougher with each passing season, we as detectorist must continue to soldier on. Now that gold has reached $120 a gram, even fly sh*t is starting to look better with each passing day.

How good,
There's been the odd stunning day up here also mate after bitterly cold mornings obviously.
Awesome to see the suns bringing a couple chunky nugs out for you Kon.
I'm thinking there's a real fat one hiding there somewhere for ya mate.

Re: The pickings are slim
Thanks deutran. It were trapped in clay between a couple of narrow slate bars, that's probably why it came out pretty clean. Mind you thats not always the case though.
Now finding some good weather in between the coming showers/wet days for another swing of the coil, will be even trickier than finding that bit of colour.
Cheers Kon
