Slim Chances
If I had 10.000 bucks to spend/toss away I would likely spend it on 5 oz of gold bullion rather than a 10,000 dollar metal detector coz it would likely take me forever to find 5 oz of gold with the tecta.

Re: Slim Chances
When you take in to account the cost of the 7000, kitting out for the desert and obtaining the vehicle and spares for the job plus tucker for a few months, petrol, survival equipment etc then the gold bullion purchase is sounding pretty good and you don't have to leave yer arm chair.

Re Slim Chance
Now I thought the fun was in the anticipation , the hope , the hunt , and maybe some rewards for all the effort , Im quite sure I will not find enough gold to even pay my fuel costs, just to have the gold in a lump and not have the experience would be a poor return , for me anyway.
But then Im panning and in Scotland .

Re: Slim Chances
I guess I did not spend years n years detecting in the gold fields coz I hated the bush aye. I likely would have gone wheels up years ago if it was not for the peace that the bush brought to my heart n soul.
I did not use a detector for quite a while, my main tools were dish, pick, spade and sluice. Getting a factory built metal detector took some serious thought and 800 bucks was not chicken feed back then. If the truth is known I probably preferred the tranquillity of the bush and finding gold was not top priority but a nice bonus when it occurred.

Re: Slim Chances
Well said Joe/mogy. Each according to their means/needs Adrian, for the life is in the hobby one enjoys participating in, not in staring day in day out, on a 5oz slug of gold they invested in. The thrill of the hunt & all that surrounds it, is what life is all about. Now get out there & enjoy it.
Cheers Kon.

Re: Slim Chances
Already had the vehicle and everything else needed to go bush. Sold the boat to buy the zed and since May last year I have found way more than the 5 ounces. Certainly beats walking around parks etc in Canberra, not a polly in sight here in the bush or any whining city slickers at the moment.
Cheers

Re: Slim Chances
Yeah my first post is not serious hence the
There is nothing that beats the feeling of seeing gold in the pan or staring back at you from the bottom of a dig along with being out in the scrub where the only sounds you hear are all natural and away from the rat race.

HI Doug.
I reckon just about anything beats detecting for coins in Canberra parks n picnic grounds but right now that is about all I can manage and even that is becoming a physical challenge

Good to get a bit of general chit chat going now and again.
Christmas is not far away now so I better find the Chrissy lights and tree and put them up before the missus starts pestering me to do it.

Re: Slim Chances
Adrian each detector I bought was the best at the time and each one was about 5 oz in cost. The only problem is it gets harder to find 5 oz with each update.
