2022 EOFY nuggets
G'day all.
I got out yesterday and it was a magnificent day. It started off chilly in the morning but when the sun came out it was great. It was a diminished group out as Bob and Moredeep couldn't make it.
I headed off to where I picked up the last two pieces and it wasn't long before I found this first piece which weighed in at 0.19 gram.
I called Wayne over to have a look and told him to keep checking out the area while I headed off to a different spot. I showed him why I like the area and exactly where to detect. When we caught up for a break he hadn't found anything. After the break we headed off in different directions and I detected the area we have all thrashed.
I came across a weak signal and scraped the top and the signal was still weak. I gave it another small scrape and still the same. There seemed to be spurious noises around the scrape and when I rubbed the coil on the ground next to the hole I got a definite signal. I scraped the top off the ground at this new spot and it was still there. A little bit of digging and it was out and it still took a while to get the piece of gold out and it weighed a whopping 0.05 gram.
The ground was very noisy. I did another dig and Wayne came over while I was digging. The signal was definite and appeared to be out at one stage but another wave over the hole and the signal was still there. Some more digging and the signal was very loud now. Some more digging and the signal was out and I was having thoughts of a piece about 2 grams. Frantically waving the coil over the dirt produced no signal. More waving over the hole and still nothing. I spent a couple of minutes moving dirt and scraping the hole but there was no signal. Must have been a very concentrated spot of mineralisation. I even checked my boots in case it was stuck to one of them.
For the day I went home with 0.24 gram of gold, about 1 mL of petrol worth. LOL. At least the mozzies weren't out.
Good luck out there, regards Axtyr.

Re: 2022 EOFY nuggets
Look on the bright side Axtyr. What hope do any bigger bits of gold have, when you're finding gold of that size? Well done.
