Hello from a new member ????
Hi everyone,
My husband & I are new to prospecting. We know zilch but we'll give it a go.
We live in the Redlands, S.E.Qld, have a SDC2300 detector & are hoping to set off at the end of April towards the Clermont direction.
Does anyone know any places that we're allowed to use our detector in Mt Morgan, Alpha or on the way to Clermont somewhere?
We'll be very grateful for any advice or info.
Thanks heaps,
Meggie

Re: Hello from a new member ????
Hi Meggy and welcome.
I've just moved to Thornlands so may be neighbours
Following the letter of the QLD law, GPA's are the only places you can detect for minerals on your fossicking licence.
As you're probably aware, the closest spot to Brisbane to detect is the Durikai GPA's (General Prospecting Areas).
Mt Morgan will be opening a couple of GPA's in the near future, if they haven't already done so.
You can read about it on Farcebook here - https://www.facebook.com/search/posts/?q=Mt%20Morgan%20GPA

"Mount Morgan General Permission Area's
( GPA's) UPDATE - 28/11/2021
The Rockhampton Morning Bulletin had an article in it on November 24th regarding RRC's submission to establish 3 GPA's around Mount Morgan. The attached screenshot shows the areas concerned, hopefully not too much longer till the Minister for Resources makes a decision.
The two Private areas that are going be made available to fossickers , my 250 acre property and the 10,000 acre property that will be managed by Dave & Debbie from The Silver Wattle Caravan Park will be available in a few weeks , an early Christmas present for Mount Morgan. Both a stones throw from Mount Morgan's CBD.
A media release will be made the week prior to opening;
Please no inquiries until the media releases are made.
After nearly 17 months of work a great new opportunity for Mount Morgan Tourism that will benefit our community.
Thank You"
Trust this assists.

Thank you very much Terry,
Yes, we are neighbours, well, sort of....we're at Capalaba.
Mt Morgan. mentioned Christmas (I presume last Christmas) & were're not heading off until late April but we'll give the Information Centre there a call just before we leave. to check. We're looking forward to giving it a go.
Did you move from interstate?
Margaret.

Re: Hello from a new member ????
Thank you moredeep. We travelled around Australia recently & found a $1 piece on the Nullabor. We were going to try Kalgoolie & Coolgardie but over Christmas & the relevant offices to show us where we were allowed were shut & we didn't want to be shotmoredeep wrote:Welcome to the forum Meggie,I let you in on a little secret

Did a bit more research on mt morgan and according to https://www.mountmorgan.org.au/News/The-Mount-Morgan-Argus-Volume-16-Issue-23 2 x Gpa's opened in December. Havent read anything on the forums regarding them though so I'll ask around.
Seems all the info is on farcebook, extract from Mount Morgan Outdoors on jan14
