So whats inside a flat wound coil
Well it so happened that I lent a coil to a former friend and it was returned in not so good condition(Stuffed!)
So a good chance to see whats inside for those wondering.

Re: So whats inside a flat wound coil
Not many get a chance to see the internals of a typically wound coil of any nature, not alone the inner construction of a later made flat wound spiral coil deutran.
Being a round coil in shape, also means that the actual flat winding configuration, is far more capable of being wound right up to & around the coils outer edges, maximising outer edge coil sensitivity.
If only the same could be achieved on coils of an elliptical design, in way of winding construction. This is why we tend to see the so called "sweet spot" on elliptical coils being at their strongest, an inch or two back from the coils outer edges.
Much appreciate the pictures
Cheers Kon

Hi Deutran,
Could you give us a few more bits of info on the coil, what i would like to know is
size of coil id ..od
How many turns
single layered or double etc
type of wire...tinned...enamelled
how many strands of wire to make up the wire
Thats the basics for making a coil but if your able to...measure inductance and ohms of the coil
Cheers,Ron

Hi Fluoro
I put this up just as an example for members only so they can see what spiral wound or flat wound means. It wouldn't be fair to provide details of their manufacturing process thus why I didn't include other parts of the coil.
