whats a good setting on hot ground with 12"mono eliptical coil

i have a gpx 4000 and i am after a good setting to quiet'n the detector down in hot.
any help or tips be much appreciated

If you use the "search" option top right, there is plenty of info for settings for a 4000. It's also hard to tell where your settings may be out without displaying them for us to see.
I have a 4500 and the key in hot ground is to back your gain off between 7-10, and ground balance often because the ground varies alot and when your in "fixed" front cap .

Smooth timings under special in menu using Special on timings switch on front end cap, crank the Gain up a couple of points above FP using the General Search mode option (front end cap switch also), Slow Motion filter, Deep or Normal audio filter, if conditions allow then use Boost for really little bits. Use Fixed on the Tracking switch, if conditions are reasonable stability wise then use DD mode, if the threshold is a bit jumpy then use Mono mode.
