Screen Repair
Recieved my screen off the zed back today from Minelab. It had the dreaded black line of death. A new LCD screen and a buff up of the glass and its like new again. This time i'll be using a film over the screen to keep it in better condition. If anyone needs this done out of warranty the cost is about $280 and you need to break the zed down to just the handle, which you send off.

Re: Screen Repair
Quick question. Does anyone clean the inside of the zeds shaft to remove grit/dust? Also, could you use graphite powder or something similar to make the shaft slide a little easier when shortening/lengthening the shaft?

Re: Screen Repair
I rarely bother cleaning the inside of the Zeds shaft to remove grit/dust, less I've had the detector exposed to a heavy amount of dust/dirt Jin, but in saying that, a 500ml can of "Holts" Silicon Spray Professional, (what I use) should solve all your lubricating of moving plastic parts, without any detriment to the plastic parts themselves.

Re: Screen Repair
Thanks Kon, I just noticed the shafts don't slide as well as they used to, and on pulling the zed down I was surprised how much dirt was inside. Basically 5 years worth.

Can anyone explain why or how the LCD screen gets the "black line."
And Jin, Why do you shorten and lengthen the shaft, does another person use the machine?
Re: Screen Repair
Not sure why the line appears, I guess it's dead pixels, but apparently has happened to many zeds from what I've been told. The reason I lengthen/shorten is to fit it into my gun safe at home or on a lockable box in the back of the ute. My old man might use my machine sometimes also and he's taller than me.

Re: Screen Repair
A close mate of mine had exactly the same issues upon receiving his GPZ within the first 6 months of operation, only to have his whole screen replaced by a new one, for the detector were still under warranty. Pixel problem is what he were told too.

Re: Screen Repair
My Zs screens black lines are starting to spread, next off season replacement time I suspect. Never cleaned my outer shaft out other then a bit of a knock while vertical when coil changing.

Re: Screen Repair
Got the same issue. Be interested where and how to get it fixed ( out of warranty).
Re: Screen Repair
GemQ, I had an issue with my screen which was caused by me. I was going to package it and send it back but it was going to cost about $25.00 to post. I took it back to Miner's Den and they sent it off for me for $12.00. Minelab repaired it for me for free.
I suggest you do the same. Since your screen has a known issue Minelab might repair it gratis. You never know.

Re: Screen Repair
Not for me, screen replacement about $198.95, replacing the buckled swollen plastic in front of the screen another $196 + $150 labour even though both are well known faults with the CTX and they even admit to the screen cover curving problem and say it should not affect your detecting experience, in my case it made the screen hard to see in the sun as it had a big rainbow due to the curve. it was tempting to buy a replacement screen from China for about $60 and do it myself. They did this product notice to cover their A*s*.
Even though both faults happened outside of warranty due to being well known existing common issues the right thing for them to do would be to repair them at no cost to me, not the case though.
The Chinese sell GPZ Screens too, who knows... possibly a different factory to the originals although probably not, may not have the same problems that the OEM screens have if they are made in a different factory. As for those that say oh oh oh don't buy Chinese junk.... where do you think the originals are made?

Re: Screen Repair
Hoping not to experience this problem with the GPZ.
From new, fitted a film to the screen and also a "Shingleback Detector Defence Product" cover, so far so good.
Rarely look at the screen after morning start up procedure, if a change is required, a shady tree and the screen is clearly visible.
Amazing machine, recent trip picked up a buried 0.07g.
