Re: fly and mozzie spray
I can't stand looking through a fly net but then discovered Nature's Botanical rosemary and cedarwood oil creme.
You only need a tiny amount, smells reasonably pleasant and works like a miracle. Keeps flys away for many hours, even when they are thick.
I haven't used a fly net ever since.
You can get it from places like Horseland or online.

Re: fly and mozzie spray
Fellas, from the day I were introduced to 1/3 Dettol, mixed with two thirds Methylated spirits, I have never looked back. A mate of mine had tried this concoction of metho & dettol mixture, but decided to add on or should I say mixed in, some baby oil, that when rubbed on exposed areas of skin, stays on a lot longer. Problem was when one started to sweat during the hotter weather, the rising dust from digging, stuck on the exposed oiled parts, which can be very annoying.
I soon did a bit of experimenting on my own, only to discover there was no need for any oil of any kind to be mixed in with the Metho & Dettol mixture, for it seeps into the skin, drying up quickly, leaving only the Dettol odour. This mixture is more than enough to keep any flies/mozzies away, but needs to be reapplied every couple of hrs or so.
Cheers Kon.

Re: fly and mozzie spray
I was told that if you spray neat Dettol on to cane toads , they hop away and die !

Re: fly and mozzie spray
Hey Mike, How do you know they'v died after being sprayed with neat Dettol, if they hop away?
Dettol, even undiluted dettol, can be applied safely on human skin, for its an antiseptic disinfectant, aimed at killing germs, but must not be ingested, because it contains a poisonous compound called chloroxylenol.

Re: fly and mozzie spray
Natures Botanicals for me too. Great stuff. All natural. Great for flies and mossies.
Just be aware that when using Bushmans, that it eats into plastics.

Re: fly and mozzie spray
From what I remember being told , you put the Dettol into a hand sprayer that squirts out a jet of Dettol like a water pistol . Squirt on the back of the head of the toad . Perhaps the toads skin is more porous and that choroxylenol goes into their body ? I have never tried it and I am well away from cane toads , except the two legged ones in Sydney !

Re: fly and mozzie spray
Not only living in Sydney Mike, for we have plenty of them living in amongst the reptiles & serpents of old here in Vic. As a matter of fact, they can be found living incognito & in abundance, within every state.

Re: fly and mozzie spray
Your correct MINERMIKE in what you say about Detol or any Antaseptic on the back or shoulders of cane toads.
It does kill them pretty quick .
Usually within minutes .
Another funny thing about cane toads is , if you leave them in a bucket of water they actually swell up and explode .
There body can not regulate how much water it can absorb.
We have them ever where in the Whitsundays .
cheers .

Re: fly and mozzie spray
What AU10OZ said, tried and proven natural botanical cream.
Apply sparingly on ears and face and any scratches you may have, a container lasts for many moons.

fly n mozzie cream
I can vouch for the cedar & rosemary cream too....I bought a heap in the territory a decade ago, it was called desert dwellers cream back then. The old stuff is a bit funky when left unused...but swish it around and its good to go. Last for a few hours each time and smells great. Doesnt keep all the flies away but most of em and they hate landing on it. As long as ya dont sweat too much, the stuff works
